In a world without cats (I know, gasp!) what pet would you have? I have to say aside from my beloved cats, rats are my favorite. They're so playful and fun! They're inexpensive, loving, and extremly smart. They NEVER bite, and can easily be trained.

Well, I grew up with dogs and always thought they were #1. When I adopted Charlotte 2 years ago, I realized what great little critters cats can be......so she has converted into thinking cats are #1 and therefere dogs are #2!!

Rats, how interesting!! My daughters had hooded pet rats for years - they are amazingly social & love to perform tricks. We also had a border collie and 2 cats - what a happy family they were. They all got along so well - it was quite the tribe.
as for me, if I couldn't have cats, my heart would break; I guess that either a rat or a German Shepard dog would have to do, but their companionship would have to be supplemented by hens and horses, too!

No doubt about it...a free-running house rabbit. Our darling Hunny Bunny (RIP) was the most wonderful thing!

Truthfully, I could never pick! I'm more of a dog person than a cat person, though. So, I'd have to say either dogs or horses.

I'd have to say dogs...never had one but I've always wanted to have a pug. I also love Beta fish (siamese fighting fish)...they are really beautiful and intelligent fish.

My sister in law is a pug FANATIC! She has a pug (Who's a spoiled little puggy brat!) and she buys anything PUG she can! She calls Cleo, her pug, her, "Puggity Wuggity," or her , "Puggida Wuggida!"

Yeah... she's a pug freak!

Gah, don't lump rabbits in the rodent family, they are not rodents!

Rats are wonderful, it's really a shame that the entire pet population of rats was derived from literally about 6 pairs of rats, leaving them genetically predisposed to cancer

I remember fondly my days of breeding pet quality, show type rats (Curly coats, jumbo, siamese, long haired, dark eyed white, blue) Yup, love the rats.

I would love a border collie, but won't have a dog like that unless I own a house with a yard.
With my situation right now as a renter, I'd have birds. I love finches & canaries.

I like dogs(border collies rock!), chickens, horses, cows, goats... ok, you can tell I'm a farm girl at heart.

Haha - I notice we both like border collies and we have tuxedo kitties...

Although I have always had kitties I would have to say that my dogs are my 1st and most favorite pets. ***Ducks under the table to avoid flying objects***

I grew up with dogs and would have had one myself when it came time to acquire my own pet. The trouble was my lifestyle was totally inappropriate for a dog, which was how I can to get a cat and to be educated by her. I wouldn't now consider being without a cat, but am content to enjoy other people's dogs until I have an appropriate lifestyle for one. So, in a world without cats? A dog, if the lifestyle was right. Otherwise, I think possibly a rabbit or maybe a ferret.

I dunno - I love all animals (though none quite as much as cats), but cats are the only ones that suit my lifestyle and preferences - I like dogs, and in theory would love to have one, but realistically they're just too much work for me. Rabbits and rodents are great, but don't live very long, and it's too hard for me emotionally to lose pets frequently, because I get too attached. I would LOVE a horse, but I live in the middle of a huge city, and could never afford one, anyway. I think birds are beautiful, but at the same time, I don't think I'd like to listen to them *all* the time. So, I seriously have no idea - thankfully I *can*, and do, have my kitties.

We had a dog for 10 years before the cats, so I guess a dog.
