Okay. Sunni did this, and now so is Sophie. I find it so strange that I have to ask if anyone understands.
There is a water bowl next to the cat's food in the kitchen, which always has fresh (bottled) water in it. I'm giving Sophie bottled water because we are on a well and she's just a baby. Yet, every time the kitchen door is opened, she darts out onto the interior back porch to the dog's water bowl and drinks like crazy! I have seen her drink her own water, too. Sometimes I think she's doing it just to drive the dog nuts!
Any ideas? Oh, and the dog gets the well water, always has. Thanks!

My Oliver has an office water cooler-looking waterer (not a fountain, but it gives a constant supply of water) that is refilled probably once a week or so with fresh water due to the amount he drinks and whatever evaporates, yet every now and then I'll turn to see him drinking out of the potty! I think it's just the idea of drinking from somewhere different, but I wouldn't be surprised if in your case she is just attempting to annoy the dog (also, I'm sure the well water tastes different from the bottled).

I know how you feel. Mine will drink from the pool (not good), puddles in the garden and driveway
, the bathroom and the kitchen sink. And once in a while from their individual water dishes.

I call that "illicit" water.
The more forbidden, the better it tastes - didnt you know that?

Dax has a water bowl near her food that she never uses. She really drinks from another one in the bathroom, and sometimes from the toilet. She really likes the water from the floor after I have had a shower too...

I've heard that cats don't like their water next to their food. Maybe you can move the water farther away.

We have a bowl upstairs and the fountain downstairs next to the food. The cats will often go upstairs to drink right after eating from the bowl next to the fountain.

Ha - that's nothing! Smudge will jump into the shower as soon as I shut it off, so he can drink the tablespoon of water that accumulates in the top of the Zest bodywash bottle.

He's also been known to drink out of the toilet, and my bathwater.

Miss Kitty INSISTS on playing with her water, batting it around and such. Consequently it gets dirty very easily and I change it often.

I initially had her on "town" water but then switched to spring water. She drank much less and didn't seem to care for it as much. I didn't mind switching back, because it was wasting a good deal of water when I had to dump out the "fresh" water because she had her paws playin' in it. When I switched back to the "town" water (through the pipes) she started drinking like normal again. She seems to like the additives, LOL.

On a related note, does anyone put ice cubes in their kitty water? At first she batted it out, but now I think she understands that it makes the water cooler for her. Now she runs to the fridge every time I open the freezer, so I give her one. Not sure if that's what shes looking for or not, but she comes...hehe.
