Now how in the heck do I get the kits interested in it. I rubbed catnip all over it and they just sniffed it and walked away.
It looks real nice in it's new spot but there are no kitties on it. Do you suppose they think it's just another piece of furniture?

Just give them a little time. It took a few days for mine to really go for it. It smelled strange and they didnt know what to think but once one took the jump, they all did, and it was smelling like them and keeping them happy in no time.

I once read that a way to get a cat interested in a post is to make it a center of his world, like play with him alot around it, make it a focus of attention..
Maybe try a laser light, & get them chasing the light so that they climb all over it. Or a featherwand. it's worked for mine..

Feliway spray here and there on the surface.
If it has any cubby holes, stuff something in there with a familiar scent.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have had cats almost my whole life but I have never owned a cat tree. It's light beige so I can tell if they have been on it or not. No cat hair yet but I will try some of the suggestions posted here. I hope they get the hang of it because this thing is huge and yes it does have a cubby hole. I'll stick something in there that they love although they're favorite toy, the scratch ring wont fit.LOL

My cats liked mine right away, so I'm not sure. What I would suggest is putting their toys, and some treats on the tree. If you see them sitting on it, or laying on it, praise them and give them loads of special attention. That, and time.

My cats couldn't wait til mine was assembled. I think others already mentioned that it should be located where the cats will likely use it and also placing treats on the bottom level and other levels should help to entice them. Do you have sisal covered posts? When a cat walks near the tree, you could try scratching the posts. The scratching noise will get their attention and may provoke them to scratch it too.
