Wowee! Just last nite, I was reading all the postings about labor et al, making sure my box of supplies was at the ready... petting Pearl and looking for any signs of impending anything...

I finally went to bed, Pearl ate a huge dinner I might add, and this morning at 5:45, my husband sat bolt upright in bed and said "Did you hear a 'mew'?" Well, we're in the middle of a heat wave here in San Diego, and we've been sleeping with the large window open. "It's probably a bird", I yawned.

Then I heard a mew.

I jumped out of bed and called for Pearl. She didn;t come. She always comes when I call for her, always. I looked in the nesting box in our room. Not there, I looked in the other box we set up for her in our adjacent sitting/computer room..not there. Another mew. Under the bed!

She'd had 5 babies all by herself, with no help! And not a peep from her! She'd cleaned up quite a bit already. All of the babies were out of their sacs, two were still attached to placentas, but by 6:15 or so, she'd had that all tidied up too!

She let me put them in the box, and then I put her in it too. She's so good, she just purred and rubbed her head against my hand.

Whew. I took some pictures, as soon as I figure out how to post them, I will!

ps: Thanks for the kind words last nite Katie!

WOW....guess you don't need the help from the bengal breeders after all.
Glad she delivered safely!!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts about Pearl! I haven't been able to get on the computer, let alone this site in a few days, things are pretty busy around here!

I took some super pix of the little ones and mommy, and I read the post on how to download them for all of you to see ... I just haven't gotten around to it ...yet, but I will!

I'm so sad to read the recent few postings of sick mamas and kitties, it breaks my heart!

To answer some of your questions, no, I'm not a breeder, and we're only having this litter with Pearl. I lost 3 cats last summer, and it was really awful. It took me (and my family) awhile to get over the losses. When we got Pearl as an 8 week old kitten, we realized that we wanted to be a multi-multi-cat household again! We'll have her spayed as soon as she's weaned the kittens ...right?

I also have a 14 year old cat, Olivia. She's curious about the kittens, but not hostile toward them. Pearl has let her have a look, but on the whole, we don't let Livvy near Pearl or the babies when
we're not around.

Thanks again for the the good thoughts, because I was pretty nervous, and it was nice to know that there were so many "out there' who cared. It's amazing that there are people all over our big (and getting smaller) world who come to this site.

Love, Wendy

Hi Wendy, I have been reading your story about Pearl, how wonderful that Pearl didn't even need any help...what good mommy she is!

On a side note, Your name stood out to me because my name is Wendy and my last name begins with G...so it was sort of funny to see a Wendy G here!
