Hello to you all,
My cat Jasper, is 4 years old. In the last few days, I have noticed him a few times, dragging his rear end along the rug in our living room..He has never done this before...I figured it was some strange way for him to scratch himself, but then I got concerned he may have some pain somewhere...Has anyone ever heard of this, and if so, what should I do???

Thank you

Coach:

It's his signal to throw a curve ball! (sorry, read that you were a Yankees fan).

Seriously, it usually means that he has worms. Time for a trip to the vet, with stool sample. If you can see little specks that look like white rice near his butt, those are pin worms. Luckily, it's a one pill cure.

This can be due to any number of things. For example, it might be a sign of worms, constipation, or a dirty bottom. Sometimes if a cat has a "dingle berry" (a poop stuck on the fur or stuck halfway out of its bottom) it will scoot on the floor to try to dislodge the poop.

Take a peek at kitty's bottom and see whether it is dirty. Also, check out the cat's fresh poop. Is it real dry and hard? If so, you may need to increase the fiber or add fish oil to the cat's food. Also look for evidence of worms.

If this happens only every now and then, it probably isn't a problem, but if it is happening real often, there might be something going on.

That if kitty is long hair, it helps to shave the hairs on his bottom so they don't get stuck in there, which will cause some cats to drag bottom to try and dislodge the irritation.

Thank you all for the input...What a cool site this is..you all seem very nice, though I'm starting to think this bottom rubbing is a sign for a change up, rather than the curve... :-)
