What is the best way to switch a kitten from wet to dry food? Right now I'm mixing some Eukanuba dry food with some Hill's Prescription diet so that my kitten will gain some weight. Once I'm pleased with her weight I'm going to try and get her on just the dry kitten food. What would be the best transition tactic? I was thinking just gradually decrease the amount of wet that I mix with the dry and eventually she will just get used to the taste of the dry.

Why would you want to do it? Wet food is good for them, cats don't get enough water, so eating wet food helps them with getting more water.

The reason is due to the expense of the Hill's a/d food that I'm getting now from the Vet. I tried several other wet foods and she did not like them. I also feel that giving a cat wet food too much will lead to a build up in tartar on their teeth since they aren't eating something that will knock it off. I'm not trying to skimp out on feeding her expensve food but this was just to get her eating since she wasn't for about a week after rescuing her from the shelter.

I feed mine both dry and wet. The dry food sits out. The wet I give twice a day.
You could just try living dry food out and see if she will eat it. And give wet at ceirtain times.

I leave dry food out all the time but feed wet in the evening for their dinner.

I too think they should have both wet and dry.

I think the plan you have in mind will work fine. My cats do fine on dry food (Wysong) and they drink plenty of water. Neither of my cats like canned/wet food.

I have a kitty that prefers dry and drinks water and one who is on wet or homemade only... I would prefer no dry at my house but I would hear about it...

Eukanuba makes a special weaning food in dry ( never used it ) that may make a trasition easier..

Yes. I pray one day most people will realize how awfull dry food is. That manufacturers put special chemicals into dry foods to intice cats to eat, other wise they wouldnt touch it. That most of the illneses our babies get is because of dry foods, and even canned, but canned is still much much better than dry.

Here a good read, among the many others.
