On another good note - our current deliver person is a gem. If we have a package he will bring it up to the door along with all of our mail - even offered to help me with a large package. He will definately be on our holiday list!

I have no complants about the postal service, ups, fedex, or dsl, they all go out of there way here

I do most of my shopping for Christmas becase I hate the MALL, and my list is long and if the packages are to big they bring them in the house, they are all great no bad experinces here

Our postmen (at home and work) are all great, so are the UPS and FedEx guys. They do come and knock on the door (Earl's almost always home), and if by some chance we aren't home they leave it at the rental office so we know it's secure.

I have to agree with Ari about DHL. They suck. We get deliveries occassionally from them at work, and while they don't throw the packages at me, they can't be bothered to remove the phones from their heads (always personal calls) to say hello, goodbye, sign here, whatever. It's not always the same guy, but it is always the same story. We've even gotten packages delivered to us for the wrong address, but they are GONE before you can even read the package!

This also brings to mind the DHL driver.
My stepdad bought me this computer from Dell, as I am working for him (his web designer/master)
He spent far too much money, IMO (somewhere in the realm of $2400 Yikes!).
Anyway, the week the computer was due, I get a knock on the door.
It was my neighbors, telling me I might want to take these boxes inside.
All clearly marked Dell in large, blue print, just left on my doorstep, no knock (my dog alerts me to anyone knocking if I am too far away to hear it).

You'd think a delivery company that deals almost exclusively with computers and related items would know better!
That aside, you'd think most any idiot could figure out that the boxes contained a computer and common sense (which obviously isn't that common) would have dictated they not be left without a signature.

Geeez
! I don't think we've ever spent over about $600 on the guts for a computer ... That's the problem with "brand-name" 'puters...

They are all pretty much ok here. However, there was one time that the temporary postman obviously didn't ring the door bell and just left a note 2 days in a row when we knew that between Scott and I that one of us was always here.

That IS a lot to spend on a computer!!! I pretty much just upgrade mine a lot (yes, online) and it is much cheaper to do it that way.

It was a business model with LCD monitor DVD ROM and CDRW,120Gb HD and an ATI vidcard instead of crappy onboard, and all of MS's business software.
Those were the only upgrades. The huge cost was was that it was Dell's top of the business line last year.

It must be a world-wide problem. Our post man has left the card in the mailbox on a Saturday when I was home causing me to take time off from work to go to the post office. I guess he didn't want to walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor.

Does sound like they're just being lazy, doesn't it? I mean, are they that far behind that a couple of minutes more of ringing a doorbell is really going to make that big of a difference in their schedules
?

Arlyn, I have no idea what any of this means
, the DH is the hardware maven, I just build things
:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+. Video is a Chaintech Nvidia 6600 GT.
Hard drive is a Samsung 80 gig, 7200 rpm.
Motherboard is Chaintech with a Nvidia NForce 4 chipset.
Memory is Kingston PC2700, 1 gig worth.
Windows XP Pro

There is also a Samsung DVD/CD-RW, a 100meg zip drive (comes in handy for backing up individual files)

We just upgraded monitors, LCD Samsung SyncMaster 920T 19" that I think set us back $420. We got two of the things because I wanted to upgrade and hubby's monitor was about to die. All together, even with the new monitor and buying OS's, it was still less than $1000.00

Of course, I drive a 1972 pick-up ... it's all in priorities ...

LOL well, I drive a 98 pickup and it needs crutches.
I can't begin to explain my stepdad and his ideals.
It was purchased purely as a business expense, so I'm thinking he wanted to spend more for the write off?

My old machine upstairs could've been repaired to the same quality as this machine for around $400

Well, actually that makes sense (using it as a tax write-off.) I hear ya about upgrading, you really probably could've gotten it to a better quality for about the same. I'm glad Sunny's into this stuff, I could probably do it if I really had to, but by this time there's so much "backstory" that I'd have to learn I just really don't even want to think about it.

I think Julius (Orange Julius, my truck
) does quite well for his age
. Ummm, "good work truck,"

*dances* weee!!! They are selling the books at my K-mart for $18 dollars each and my mom said she would buy me one on friday!!! I AM SO HAPPY
Of course I have to do things for it.
I told her I would even go sweep the roof if she wanted. But I cant mow the lawn because I have severe cut grass allergies. Bleh. So basically we're not going by the "if you walk by the trash can and its full, take it out" rule this week. *dances some more*

Our mail is always in our box, same time every day apart from Sunday.

Parcels etc are either left in the box or the post company will HONK and we will go outside.

They're too pussy to go past our dog

Not only do their package delivery skills suck, but so do their driving skills... I have been almost hit/run of the road/cut off by more DHL drivers than I care to think about! I am tempted to let one hit me.
I had a friend get hit by a UPS truck in high school. He got a pretty red Miata out of the whole ordeal.
