I have been awake since 6 am today, at 1 pm i go to bring down the washing and i see the mail at my door. The post man didnt ring my doorbell to give me my harry potter book, instead they just left one of those cards saying i wasnt home and to just go and pick it up tomorrow! I find this really unfair, because in frankfurt they did it all the time!!!!!!!!

Does anyone else have this problem?

tomorrrow morning im going to complain at the post office

Well I don't have the exact same problem but the postmen/woman here will let anyone sign for a package! I ordered a very special gift for my Dad from the U.S. for Christmas and I never received it, when I tried to trace it the postoffice said that I had already signed for it and had accepted it!!!!
When the postman came someone said they were me and signed for my package, took it and was never asked for ID obviously. I was soooo mad...
(At least the company re-sent the order and didn't charge me again.)

That was just WRONG of them, especially since they KNOW how everyone is foaming at the mouth to receive their new HP book!
Way to file a complaint- maybe then they'll quit being so slack!

Here in the Uk, when you send/receive something by Recorded (Signed For) Mail, anyone can sign for it - it doesn't have to be the recipient! Seems a bit silly really!

Yeah, unless some lady was already at the door when the postman was there so he decided to just leave a note, incase she said i was still asleep? (but what would she know?)
or unless he didnt want to see me again

Last time he came and i just threw my self out of bed still in my pjs and unshaven legs haha

... arry Potter book ... !!!

Don't get me started on the Royal Mail in the UK
They are crap! The area where I live is one of the worst in the whole of the UK! My postman has done the same thing to me before, said that he knocked and I wasn't in so left his card. The problems is, I was in.... The times this has happened it's so frustrating!

I haven't had a problem with getting things, but 99% of the time the things I get have already been opened! I don't know whether it's the postman having a quick look to see if it's worth nicking, or if he's just a nosey sod

The only thing we would have to sign for in the post here would be a registered letter and I really don't want one of those
!

UPS will hardly ever ring the doorbell (what did I put that thing there for, decoration?) they have a bad habit of bouncing out of the truck, leaving stuff on the porch, and then running like h*ll!

Much prefer FedEx. The FedEx lady and I are practically on a first name basis
She always has a kind word for Kellie (who barks at her, warning me about the dangerous FedEx delivery person, tail going 90 to nothing the while,) and does always ring the bell since for FedEx someone always has to sign unless it's otherwise specified.

If I'm expecting a package from any carrier-I have it delivered to work.
The postman will leave package by front door and so will UPS however.
But when you live in a rural area I feel better actually having the package in my hand!!

Just had to add... I've decided DHL (a delivery service) is the worst of all. I was sitting on the couch in my living room, where I can look out into my fenced in patio (which has full view of the gate and front door). All of a sudden I see a delivery man open my gate, THROW the package AT my door and then leave. Didn't even TRY to see if I was home, let along take in consideration that the contents of my package might be fragile. Grrrr....

OMG, did you call and report him????? That's totally uncalled for, and I bet if he knew someone caught him at it he'd think twice - good job I don't have my perfume shipped by DHL!!!! PU

maybe your neighbors?

I had a particularly light-fingered neighbor in TN, thrilled to be rid of him! Scott(my roommate)'s mom sent us a care pkg of goodies from his hometown, addressed to him but without the apt number. Priority mail, no signature required, so it was left while I was at school and Scott at work. His brother, who was shacked up w/the girl in the next apartment, "thought it was for him." Wasnt' even going to tell us except that we caught him throwing away the evidence. Scott actually bought his line of malarky!!!!!

Yep, it happened to us before too. We saw the postman leave our mail in the mailbox - went to get it and it had one of those little notes saying "Sorry you weren't home.... yada yada...." Hubby called to complain - that person wasn't our pomstman for much longer.

UPS guy does it all the time. idiot also places boxes in front of the storm door, effectively holds the door shut.
Pain in the butt to go out back and walk all the way around the building.

I haven't had any problem. Although my dad is a mailman but he is one of the nicest and best mailmen. We have pretty decent mailmen where I live and I've enver heard of compaints from neighbors. My dad saiys there are mailmen like that though who are just lazy.

My dad is a Fex-Ed delivery man. He's one of the 'good ones'.
The only people he is rude to are those who let their dogs bite and jump on him. Sorry about your delivery dude.
