The thread about people who drop by without calling first made me think of this, how late would you make a phone call to another person and at what time would you think it was too late?

I tend to think that calling after 9pm is a bit rude, just because by that time of night I'm settled down and either having a before bed bath, or getting ready for bed (old fart, I know!).

On the same track, how early is too early? I tend not to call before 10am on a weekend as I hate to be woken up if I've planned a nice lie in!

It depends. People who i know who are up really late and don't mind a call after 9.p.m. i would ring, but i would never ring them after 10.p.m even if it wouldn't bother them.

If i do ring after 9.p.m it's just a quick 10 minute chat because i like to relax at that time of night, so i do my long winded calls after 7.p.m.

Now calls on a weekend i would have to say after 10.a.m but i'm always up well before then anyway.

During the week I would never dream of phoning someone after 8:30pm, and I'm very careful to try and avoid phoning during dinner time.

At weekends i don't phone before 10am - proberbly because I am still in bed!

I really think it depends on who I am ringing! I will phone my Mum and dad up to about 11:30pm any night of the week, but with friends I tend to phone around 8pm, as I know that the call is going to be long! Plus, my friends and I always chat on the phone while we're in the bath!

For business calls, I will call between 8:30 and 9am. I tend to call my Mum between 7:30am onwards - sometimes I make her get out of bed, the lazy thing!

I wouldnt really call anyone after 10pm, maybe 11pm at weekends, unless it was something which had to be said that night!!

I would call after 9am in the week and not until after 11am at the weekend...

A lot of my friends only have cell phones, so half the time I don't call till 9 or after so that they are not using daytime minutes or I will call earlier, leave a msg and then they call me back after 9. I usually don't call anyone before 10 unless it's a work call. Unless it's a friend who called me too late (after 11) and woke me up, then I'll call them at 7 or 8 in the morning just to annoy them.

I won't answer the phone if it's after 10 p.m. (on week nights) cuz either I'm in bed or just getting ready to go to bed and anyone who knows me wouldn't call me after that time anyway...

On weekends I wouldn't call before 10 or 11 a.m. depending on what time I get up...

I think it all depends on the person you are calling. If you know their daily routine, call accordingly. Otherwise, a good rule of thumb is after 10am and before 9pm. Maybe we should consult Emily Post on this one, though!

I agree, it depends on who you are calling. But I normally don't make any calls after 9pm just in case! I know with myself, some nights I could be in bed at 9pm and other nights, 11.30pm and I know that other ppl do that too

Whoa, you guys are night owls
! I wouldn't call anybody after 8:00 and 7:30 is pushing it IMHO. Depending on the person I wouldn't call earlier than 9:00am, but usually want to wait 'til at least 10:00. Which reminds me, I need to call my sister to see what they've been up to ...

it depends on the person's scedule. I have people that call at midnight because that's when they are off of work. Typically though, I'd prefer people to not call after 10 unless it's an emergency. Weekends I'm more lenient. I also don't want anyone calling me on a day off until after 12 noon. I usually get up early but don't want to be bothered. I usually wait until 10am to call others during the week.

I would make my phone calls during the day between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. most people are having dinner. At night I would call between 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

I call no one after 9pm unless otherwise prearranged.
I ask people to call me no later than 10pm.
If my phone rings after that, and I'm not expecting a call, it had better be an emergency.

I wouldn't call anyone after 10pm at night, unless I knew they were a nightowl, like myself. I also try not to call before 10am on the weekend.

Those are pretty much the guidelines we use, too, unless we know the person's habits definitely permit something different, or they've made a point in a message of saying it's OK to call outside those times.

We don't really want calls outside those times, either, for the most part. I'll look at the call display and decide whether to answer the call, but if it's not a call I want, it's annoying to be disturbed by the phone, particularly on a Saturday morning lie-in! Late in the evening is not as much of an issue, because at least one of us is up until midnight or later, and family and close friends know that.

I don't care how late people call me (insomniac here), but I DO care if people call me at 8AM. That is WAY too early for me.

Anyone can call me at any hour they wish. If I'm in bed or whichever I just wont asnwer.

I don't call anyone before 10am unless it's family, or unless it's on a weekday and I'm ringing my friend about catching the bus or something.

However on the weekend and in the school holidays I tend not to ring my friends before noon. They all like to sleep in.

I don't ring ANYONE after 9PM.
