I am sorry to alarm everyone but my kitten got caught in flypaper, you know the sticky one that hangs from the ceiling? I need to know how to remove the sticky residue. I got off the paper but even washing him with shampoo and dish soap ((rinsed off well)) nothing seems to do the trick. Please leet me know what I must do to help her. Her name is Princess Smokey.

Thank you all.

Erin_12306,

I've moved your post to our Care and Grooming forum, where you should get some good advice on removing the flypaper residue.

From my own experience of getting bubblegum in my hair, using something oily to get out the sticky residue might help. If you have corn oil or peanut butter, try to work that into the sticky residue and comb it out with a fine toothed comb.

My mom's cat managed to get pine sap in her fur from climbing around in the Xmas tree this Xmas--we let it dry for a day, and then had to snip out the little clumps with a small pair of manicure scissors. If you can't use olive or corn oil to get the clumps out--it might be easier just to snip the clumps out.

would something like baby oil be safe to use on a cat?

did it say on the package for the flypaper if it's safe for animals and children? The reason I ask, is because even though you bathed the cat, is there a chance the residue could still pose a toxic threat to the cat?
Don't mean to alarm you further, Erin.....just kinda thinking out loud here.
Hopefully someone here will be able to answer all these questions.

Love to Princess Smokey.....hopes she forgives you for the bath.

I was also thinking about suggesting just cutting the sticky fur off.....it will grow back. And this way, you don't need to worry about putting something else in Princess Smokey's fur that may be lethal to her....or else forcing you to have to bathe her again, which may be lethal to you.
just kidding.
Keep us posted.

Sorry if this is TMI, lol, but your story reminds me of when I was nairing my legs, and my cat butted his way into the bathroom and rubbed up against me. He ended up losing the hair above one of his eyes and under his chin. It was kind of scary, but he didn't have any other lasting effects besides the temporary baldness.

I just have to stop reading these things at work. I'm sitting here trying not to laugh and it's not working (I'm a giggler when something strikes me funny). I'm afraid my boss will be coming out of his office any time now to see what the dickens is wrong with me. I was fine until someone (who shall remain nameless) just happened to mention her visualization of the cat and then it was all over for me.

I think that nameless person just got tears in her eyes laughing at that.......but, since you didn't mention who it was, I can't be sure.....

do you think Yosemite bought that???
