I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to or been successful at teaching whole male cats not to spray inside the house? I have such a nice male kitty and would love to be able to keep him inside the house with us but I don't know that it's possible to teach them to mark territory in his outside enclosure only and not in the house. He is not yet at spraying age.

I think if you do find a way besides neutering, that you should patent your idea, because you will make a lot of money. Intact males spray- no matter what breed they are.

Please don't let him outside until neutered, he will mate with any strays around & contribute to the over population of cats and get into fights which could injure him.
There is a list of low-cost spay/neuter clinics on this board if that is why you haven't neutered him.

Er, Bengalbabe is talking about her stud cat in her Bengal breeding program ... I really doubt she wants him neutered.

I didn't think it was possible, of course then again I don't know if anyone has ever tried to train a cat to spray in designated areas only. I wouldn't expect him to not spray at all, just not inside my house. For instance my dog marks every rock, plant and tree he sees outside but he wouldn't even think of marking up the inside of my house! I think my cats are smarter then my dog.
Oh well, if all else fails I guess i'll have to buy him some of those stud pants so he can come inside now and then.

It might never be a an actual problem. It's somewhat unusual, but I have heard of stud cats that were very mannerly in the house and didn't spray. I kept procrastinating neutering Melichus when he was young as he never started spraying and money was extremely tight at the time. If I remember correctly he was neutered finally at around 14-16 months and never did spray.

I too have heard of intact males never spraying however if there's females in heat around.....I would assume that it would be very unlikely that he wouldn't spray. Maybe i'll get lucky and he won't but im not holding my breath.

I heard that some lines of studs don't spray. Is your cat spraying already? Maybe he won't. ALthough I presume that is rare.
