My cat hates being picked up so I do it rarely. However, I picked her up this weekend and something from her bottom leaked on my arm. (It is definitely in the fecal family but liquid.) Does she need her anal glands expressed? I've heard of this for dogs. Does the vet do it? Can a groomer do it? Is it serious? Will it cause her problems? Any advice? Thanks!

Do an anal gland search on this forum. There is quite a bit if info. that might help you. Also, if you are still concerned, have your vet check your cat.

I would suggest taking her into the Vet.

My girl, Zoey, has had issues with her anal sacs 3 times now. I would highly suggest having the vet look at her and possibly show you how to express the sacs yourself in the future if it should happen again.

As stated...my girl has had issues 3 times...but she doesn't react in the "usual" way -- meaning she doesnt scoot her but on the floor or like at it obsessively in order to relieve the pressure. They way we figure out she is having issues is that some of the fluid "shoots" out when is shouldn't [during play time each of the 3 times that we have had her checked].

I wouldn't let this go on too long. Your girl could get constipated because it may be hurting her to go to the bathroom. I know my girl is on antibodics again as well as a stool softener because of this.

Sending good thoughts your way.
