Last night I was driving back to Morgantown and hit a deer. I saw the darn thing just standing in the right hand lane (I was in the left lane). I slowed down hoping it wouldn't move, well it did. It hit my passenger side head light and hood and rolled onto my roof. I drove to the next rest stop that was less then a mile away. I started to freak out. I called my parents and the police and got the ok to drive home. Surprisingly my head light was not damaged to bad, the casing is shattered, but the light still works. Limerick was in the car with me. Thankfully he was in his carrier when it happened. He's perfectly fine,he's actully been more playful today if that's possible, I on the other hand, am still shaken up. It looks like the hood and head light are the only things that are going to need replaced.
The thing that really got me was no one stopped when I hit it, and the truckers at the rest stop just stared at me when I was crying to my boyfriend about it.

It could have been a lot worse, I got lucky!!

thats good you are ok! wow the only thing i've hit (luckily) is a possom :S not as big!i cant help but hope the deer was alright too! lol. dumb animals sometimes, running infront of things, i was driving behind this bigrig thing and i see this cat just commit suicide and run literally UNDER the tire, and no way did this driver have any clue because it was a huge truck and near the back where the cat was ran over, but to be RIGHT behind it and see its poor mangled body. maybe the cat wanted to die.maybe the deer wanted to die. (ha) but the wonderful thing is you and you
r kit are safe and sound!!!

The deer hit the front of my car, flipped in the air completly and then came down on my windshield. Of course i freaked out but was okay!!! Now i have deer whistles on my car!

At least someone stopped!!! There were 4 cars around me when I hit it and no one stopped. When I was at the rest stop, 4 truckers were just staring at me, none of them came to see if I was ok. One trucker didn't "help" until the state cop got there, then he came runnin over....
I'm still mad about that

I'm glad to hear that you and Limerick are okay. Do you have car insurance and if so will they be able to pay for some of the bill? I wouldn't think you would have to pay for it all. People can be rude sometimes by not stopping. What if you were seriously injured? Again, thankfully your car only got damaged.

On a brighter note, going to any WVU game? I hope to go see my boys play this Fall! Let's Go...Mountaineers!

Thankfully the insurance company is covering the damage. They said it's just a fact of life when you life in Pennsylvania.

I just can't stay away from Morgantown on Football Saturday. I'm going to the WVU vs. Sryacuse game and Pitt for sure. I'm hopfully going to march with the WVU Alumi Band for the Louisville game. My boyfriend's parents got season tickets again so I may be able to go to the Virginia Tech game.
I can't wait to watch the game and my colorguard girls kick butt this season (I'm a WVU colorgaurd Alumni). The Drumline alrady has all thier cadences, and pregame learned and marched. They sound awsome. it's going to be a great season, band wise any way!!

Here... or There... Hmmm
I hit a deer when I was 16 with my moms car. Luckily I only seemed to nic it and didn't do any damage to the car and the deer flipped around and ran back into the field!! Had a bit of fur stuck to the side of the light but no blood or anything.. I never did tell my mom, thinking she'd get pi$$ed! Michigan has lots of deer too!!!

Aww! I hope you and your cat and your car will be ok (hopefully without costing too much$$$ on the car's part)

Heh.. when I was learning to drive, I was out with my mothers boyfriend because he was giving me driving tips... we're on this road where the houses are right next to the road, only the ground is raised and they have fences (the road was cut into the small hill) and this freaking deer..... HOPS over the five foot fence and lands about ten feet down RIGHT in front of the car. Thank god I am a nervous driver and already had my foot on the brake. One time I almost hit a turkey too, that coincidentally popped up out of nowhere from a higher place.

At least you could see the deer, and it didnt come magically bounding out of nowhere, and you probably werent going that fast then. Always best though when a deer is on the road to slow down, most of the time if you come up to it slowly the deer will get out of its spell and run away. I mean.. if big flashing lights were coming up at ME at 60 mph.. I would be like "dude... what?" but if they were coming up at 20 miles per hour. I would be like "oh.. hey.. idiot.. get out of the way, the lights are getting bigger" you know?

Well I am really glad you're ok! It freaks my mom out too when we drive by a deer... because they are really unpredictable. But, like I said, I'm really really glad you're ok and nobody was hurt!

I know how you feel. Last fall, I hit a moose - totalled my car but fortunately no one was hurt except the moose who was knocked to the side of the road. He came from NOWHERE - we had ben watching the road too. I have to admit that while I am an animal advocate, the first thing I thought was "I don't want to die" since so many ppl are killed by moose-vehicle accidents on this highway. And for some strange reason, I swerved in the opposite lane of the highway and otherwise, I would not be here (That and the fact I was dring a huge Dodge Durango and had sear belts on). I was sorry for the moose but when you hit 1500 pounds, anyone is lucky to come out alive!

The worst part was it was right in front of the fence built to keep moose off the highway!

Thank goodness that you and Limerick are okay!! Yes, deer can be suicidal, all right. I'm glad you slowed down - you must have been using your headlights properly(not overriding your low beams) and alert for night creatures. Good job! In our area, there are quite a few injuries from auto/deer collisions; people are going too fast for what they can see at night, when they see the deer, they jump on the brakes, which pushes the nose of their car down, and the hit deer slides up the resulting slope, and right through the windshield!!!!! I am upset that passers-by didn't stop to help - that wasn't being neighborly at all:
but you & Limerick are okay - that's the main thing!!

So happy that insurance is covering the damage.

That's cool that you were in the colorguard. Do you know Mindy Young? I think she was in the colorguard too several years ago.

I'll probably be watching the Tennessee Titans too to see how they are doing with Pac-man Jones down there now. What's up with him getting himself into trouble though?!

I don't remember a Mindy Young, when did she march?? I marched from 2001 to 2004.

Pacman, Pacman... It seems to be a pattern with him. He got into the same trouble in Morgantown his freshman year. Hopfully all will work out and he can get some playing time in.
