hi my mama cat just had 5 babies on july 14th and all looked well at first but now the 2nd born which is a little male bobtail(the only bobtail) he does not appear to be nursing. he is making constant breathing sounds like sounds of him letting out breath almost like he's stopped up. i've tried clearing his lungs like the site suggest and it didnt work. I've tried to force him to nurse this also is not working he doesnt seem intrested at all but he does go lay right by the mama cats neck and the other kittens and she is not shunning him off. what should i do? he looks a little thinner the the others even though its only been 1 day

As a piece of info, if a kitty's nose is stopped up, he won't eat. Sometimes, it will help to take him in the bathroom and turn on the shower as hot as it will go. The steam is benificial, like a humidifier. He may require bottle feeding.
It's vitally important that this little receive immediate care. This is such a fragile age. He could become dehydrated very quickly just to name one possibility. Please get this precious little one to the Vet promptly! Even on Saturdays, most Vets are open for half a day. Otherwise, please get him to the Emergency Vet. Please be very sure you keep him warm during transport. You can fill a 2 litter bottle with very hot water and wrap a towel around it for him to snuggle against to keep warm. You can also fill a sock with minute rice and then microwave the sock and rice to get it warm. This will provide a source of heat for this baby during transport to the Vet. Please do have him examined and treated immediately!

This is a huge problem at this tender age! Also, kittens cannot keep themself warm and he will quickly become cold when removed from his mother or some other source of warmth.

Please let us know if the vet was able to help this little baby. Gasping breaths is a very dire sign! I hope he is improving!

Unfortunately, one in my litter developed the same symptoms when it was nine days old. We took it to the vet immediately, but it had a congenital heart defeat. The vet said that it only had a couple of painful hours left. So we let them put it to sleep.
I hope that your situation will turn out differently?
