My bengal cat got scared by my mom's dog and we noticed he made a horrible smell. I cannot describe the aweful smell but I was beginning to think he was part skunk, part cat.
I had never heard of a cat emitting a smell from being scared before! I did look this up and I have come to the conclusion that my cat emptied his anal sac which most animals can do except domestic animals. Since the bengal has some wild blood it seems he is able to voluntarily empty his anal sac. Has anyone else had this experiance with a domestic cat?

Yes, he emptied his anal sac. Both cats and dogs do this when they are scared. Working in a vet's off ice I see alot of animals afraid of being there.

That has to be one of the most disgusting odors known to man, isn't it? One of my cats absolutely hates to be brushed. She gets so mad sometimes when I brush her that she actually expresses her anal glands herself! I bought one of those groomer's aprons (it's made out of vinyl) just because of her nasty habit! I also work at a veterinary clinic and have never seen a cat do this (dogs do it all the time however).

My parents cat does it sometimes when he gets startled - I remember one time a friend of my mother brought her puppy in our house, kitty attacked it and at the same time shot out these double jets of foul anal sac fluid all over the floor. It does not happen often, but he always seems very embarrased afterwards..

My mother and I had an argument about who had to clean it up...
