Hi, my 2 four month old kittens have been admitted to the vets with high temperatures, raised resperation and heart beats. The test results have shown nothing and at the moment it is a mystery as to what is wrong. Joey fell ill first with Dot following the same pattern a day later. It is heart breaking to see them like this. They have been holding their own for 3/4 days now and I am worried as to what will happen when they have to come off of the medication that is lowering their temperatures. Has anyone out there experienced anything like this? Any advice would be greatfully accepted, I am desperately searching the net for all virus info to try and come up with a solution.
Thanks,
Shelley

Wow, that is pretty scary. Are they up to date on all their vaccinations? Does the vet have any idea what it could be? It seems like the vet would be the first option for telling you what is wrong, since s/he has practiced medicine for a number of years and has examined the kittens.

I would talk to the staff when visiting the kittens (assuming they are still in the hospital). Are their other symptoms getting better? If so, it may be just a virus, because the vet doesn't do tons of extra labwork to identify which virus. He may be more interested in getting them well than in identifying the specific virus.

Thanks for your reply. Yes they are up to date with all their vacinations. We went to visit them this morning and they were a little brighter, their temperature is still high along with their heart rate and respiration but it is a little lower than yesterday. We managed top get them to eat a little which we are pleased about. They are more vocal then they were. There are no other symtoms than those I have already mentioned. The vet says there was no sign of the coronavirus in Joeys blood tests and I hope that Dots show the same as this rules out FIP. Thanks again.
Shelley.

If they are siblings this could be genetically perdisposed and not a virus at all. Sometimes when cats iare allowed to breed freely, unexplained illnesses can occur.

I hope they get a handle on what is wrong and get it fixed soon.

We have been to visit Dot and Joey today and they have developed ulcers on their tongues so the vet now thinks that they have the Calicivirus and if they continue with the support and care hopefully they should pull through. They have eaten today and even were a little playful so things are looking brighter.
