Hi everyone. I have a bit of a delimma and want your opinions. Here's the thing, at the end of this month Tia needs to get her second booster shots and I was planning on taking jasper in at the same time for his booster shots and one year checkup (a bit late). I wanted to take them in at the same time so neither freaks about "you smell strange/bad, hissss". The problem is that the vet I really like is on vacation for that Sat.(need it to be a day where hub can carry jasper while I take tia, I have a hernia) and the one prior to it and the vet that I DON'T like is on or else it is a "substitute" vet
. Do you think I should wait longer to try for "my" vet or takr them in one at a time on the weekday my vet is there and hope there isn't a "you smell" problem? I am still in the introduction phase with the cats at this point. Thanks for your imput.

If you think the vaccination can wait (and the kitty will not be around other cats and never go outside), then it may be OK to wait until you can avoid the boo-hiss-you smell bad trauma and take them both at the same time. It also may help with just the trauma of taking kitties to the vet - better 2 than one!

If you are not comfortable the the "other vet" or the "sub" I would wait.

It depends on why you prefer this vet. Basic shots are kind of simple, as long as the vet is competent, it should be fine. But if he is too rough with the kitties, or doesn't answer questions, or something else important, then wait another week or two!

Taking them both is a good idea!

I agree with everyone else, If you think you can wait, wait for the vet you like. I HATE going to a different vet.

Go with your instincts - wait for the vet you like! And just be sure to change clothes & wash your hands prior to petting your kids, if you handle any other cats. If worst comes to worst, it's probably better to have them put up with coming home with the vet-smell individually - they'll manage ok, besides, there will be times when they have to go individually in the future. What a wonderful meowmmy you are!! I wish that more kitties could have a wonderful meowmmy like you!

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to try to wait until I can take them both to the vet that I LIKE. :-) That was my gut feeling and you all helped me to stick with it.

That's really best...
I took CJ and Billy to a low cost vaccination clinic.... I'll never do it again. I thought CJ was going to die... she wouldn't eat, drink, she was lethargic, and if you touched her, she'd scream in pain. It's not worth the risk.... It broke my heart.

A while back, I took my dog to a vet that I didn't particuarly care for, but didn't mind... I took him there just because I volunteered there, and thought, well, she's a vet, I'm sure she'll do everything right......and it cost my puppy's life.

It was just a heartworm reverse...... something not quite as, but simple, like vaccinations. It's really best to get the vet you know and trust.

FIRST are these in and out cats? Or do they just get out under supervision? I do not vaccinate my cats anymore as this VAS vaccine associated sarcoma is NOW for SURE happening in 1 to 3000 cats! It could be 1 in 1,000,000, BUT if it is your cat who dies from this cancer it wont matter.

If you do get vaccinations please know it is every THREE years and ONLY those shots it is at risk of getting. ALSO MAKE SURE THE VET does NOT vaccinate in the scruff of between the shoulders as IF cat gets VAS there it will most likely be dead in 3 years.

Here is an excellent website to learn about vaccinations:http://www.critteradvocacy.org/ Also catshots.com, and shorti-online.org

Good luck!

Yeah definitly go with your gut feeling. However for me I would just take it in and get it over with, not the booster shots however, we don't get them. No way.
