Hoshi, my Tortie has been urinating on a lot of things...including my shorts, pillows, covers, sheets and this morning has even got ahold of Mom's things.
Just a few days ago I decided to move the litter box and food bowls into another room because my allergies have been acting up really bad because of the litter box. It seems like a coincidence that when we moved the litter box that she starts doing this again.
I've also heard that when cats have UTI infections that they also do this. What I'm wanting to know is...Can this be fixed and can she stop this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Moving the litter box might have triggered this, that's right. Also your concern about a urinary tract problem is justified. The first thing you want to do is have a vet check to rule that out. There are many behavioral reasons for inappropriate elimination, and it usually takes detective work to find the cause. You can start with this article here from the "Health" section of the site: http://www.thecatsite.com/Cats/Cat_C..._Problems.html

From the book Cats on the Counter by Lachman & Mickadeit:

Dr. Lachman is talking about behavioral reasons for litterbox accidents on pg 42:

…anxiety is the most frequent cause of both house soiling and territorial spray marking. Frequent triggers that can lead to such underlying anxiety include:

- moving to a new home
- a human member of the family leaving the home ….
- a new animal moving in
- a new <person> arriving
- work being done in the home ….
- new furniture ….
- a reduction of time spent with the cat ….
- marital disharmony or domestic violence ….
- roaming cats comint on the catâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s property ….
- the occurrence of … breeding season

It could be because you moved the litterbox, however I would most certainly get her checked out by the vet. UTI infections can be fixed with medication.

let us know how you go - hugs to your kitty
