Pretty good list, but it is incomplete. Hilary Clinton is not on it.

No. 86 Chris Ofili - isn't he an artist? What's he done to get on this list then? (excuse ignorant questions, I am a Brit!).

Must agree with your choice of Phyllis Schlafly, Amy.

I am actually quite offended to see Noam Chomsky on that list. It's true that he is VERY critical of the US government, especially when it comes to foreign policy. But isn't it the people's democratic right (and duty) to question their government?
Why should someone who is critical of the government be labelled as anti-american?
wow, its sad that i have no idea who the majority of those people are

1. J.K Rowlings
2. Dr. Phil (from Oprah)
3. Alan Greenspan
4. Hillary Clinton
5. Producers of "Fear Factor"
6. Producers of any "reality show"

The author was on The Daily Show last night. Jon Stewart gave him down the road...the poor guy had no clue what he was in for. Jon made a good point...most of the people on the list are people with no real power.
I Jon Stewart. The "fake news" is the best news on TV.

I must say I think some of the people on that list are awesome. Ted Rall is great, I love Michael Moore's films and books, I plan to vote for Robert Byrd again next year....
But then, I am a hard-core liberal. hehe

Your list is great! I must second it.

I happen to think that the most patriotic and American thing you can do is question your leaders and hold them accountable for their BS, no matter which party they belong to.

I caught the show and I have never seen Jon tear into any guest like he did to this guy. Was rather surprised.

He claims he chose them because of things like using vulgar language in public. But now that I see the list, I have to question his ability to see reality.

Jimmy Carter? A man who devotes his life to public service, an ambassador to the world and a supporter of Habitat for Humanity (actually works projects). Is he on the list because he was a democratic president? Just don't get that one. In fact, I don't get most of them.

I think Daily invited him on the show to prevent people from buying the book. I certainly won't.

I, too, question why one would consider JK Rowling someone who is screwing up America. She has introduced MILLIONS of children to reading, which I consider highly noble.

Zoe'nMissKitty- glad you like my list
Amy- I agree that Jimmy Carter should not be on that list . He is the one who makes me proud to be a Georgian!

Who wrote this?

Anyways, laughable. Yeah that Barbara Kingslover is a scary broad.

You know I am trying to get out of this mean spirit stuff. I am even, believe it or not, waiting to hear until the facts come out on this Rove thing. I still can't stand the guy but don't want to sink to a jerk level and not have all the facts.
Harry Belafonte??

They missed Bill & Hillary.
Wow he forgot George W. Bush. I question why political comedians like Al Franken made the list. It seems this author has a one track mind!
Harry Belafonte?? Apparently someone took the "jump in the line" a little too seiroulsy, or maybe whoever wrote it doesnt like bananas. (he sang day-o the banana boat song)

I also was suprised to see that someone feels that JK Rowling should be on the list. I have yet to see anything she has done wrong. In fact I think she has done nothing but good. She was a very poor single mom who wrote a book that got her enough money to never worry about her or her children's futures. As well as making history with her number of books sold. It is the fastest selling, as well as higest selling seires of all time, children or adult. She also has created a renewed interest in reading which has gone way downhill in children thanks to movies, TV, and the internet, and to video games. Kids who never have picked up a book before harry potter are now avid readers. Having read all the books myself, and seeing all the movies, I have yet to come across anything that I would find offensive to children, or that would hold any reason for me not letting them read the books. Most people say that it teaches witchcraft with spells and such. Most of the incantations in the books are just the latin word for things (such as luminate) or a blend of 2 or more latin words (totally petrify) . Nothing evil or satanic there. I applaud her.

I've generally found that those who claim J.K. Rowlings is promoting witchcraft, Satanism, or whatever the overwrought charges are, have never read the books.

I quite agree.

For anyone who hasn't run across it, check out A Charmed Life: the Spirituality of Potterworld by Francis Bridger. The link goes to Amazon, where there are some reviews. Read the reviews -- I couldn't say it better.

There are a few people on this list who I like and don't think they are "screwing america" for instance:
. Michael Moore ,Ted Kennedy ,
Gloria Steinem ,Phil Donahue
Barbara Kingsolver ,Barbara Streisand , . Kingsolver is a great author. It sounds like who ever made this list was a conservative , frigid fool.
Bush is the only one who needs to be on that one...

I think a lot of the backlash against JKR and her works (especially from religious figures) is because they encourage childrens' imaginations. If you have an imagination, you are more likely to ask difficult questions that only have ambiguous answers and are less likely to accept things that are presented as "fact".

As many have said, the simple fact is JKR and her works are getting kids to read, and getting them excited in reading. That's something to celebrate, not denigrate.

I guess It all comes down to who's ox is being gored doesn't it? Personally I think Dubya and his crowd are the biggest threat to the Republic in a long time. I tend to be a moderate republican but Bush looks a little too much like a wanna be dictator or King to make me happy, but no doubt the Republic will survive him too, The pendulm swings.
Yaaay for you!
I love it when my students show imagination and think "outside the box."
I am a conservative and am a Christian, and I love the Harry Potter box.
To me, there is not much difference betwen this and THE WIZARD OF OZ.

I, too, think Hilary Clinton should be on that list.
Is Bill on it? I didn't check. I think he needs to be.

Everyone has right to his or her opinion about who and who should not be on the list. That is what is great about the USA. We are allowed to make such a list without fear of being thrown in jail.
God bless the USA.

In my mind, the first two you listed should have been the top two on the list. OK, actually I think Kennedy is doing more damage to the country and even his own party than anything Michael Moore has done...
Oh, I agree with you totally, valanhb!

Ted Kennedy has 0% respect from me. http://www.ytedk.com/chappindex.htm

I dislike Michael Moore intensely.

I have to say (though this will come as no big surprise )that I respect both Michael Moore and Ted Kennedy immensely and agree with a good bit of what they have to say .

Heidi, there was a day, pre Rush, where even conservatives respected Kennedy.

Oh and Moore Rocks, I mean he must be hitting it close to the mark if he makes people so angry.

I agree...who in the world could possibly have a problem with a humanitarian like Jimmy Carter? (Even if you didn't like him as a president, that was so long ago it doesn't really matter!)

Yeah what bothers me is that I know things go in cycles and we are in a conservative mode now. But it's like all the good of the liberal ideals of 60's is now getting trashed as "pansy" or weak etc. I mean I can't even imagine Eisenhower's republicans talking the way they do now. Einsenhower totally understood the idea of separation, his own son endorsed Kerry cause of what is going on. People don't realize that the good of the republican party is under seige, and I don't mean Roe.
