I just got my new kitten Tia on the 6th and she has a behavoir that is hard to take but I don't know how to stop her from doing it. She climbs me like a cat tree!
And her little claws are like needles so everyday I am sporting at least ten to twelve new bleeding scratches! She doesn't wait for me to pick her up, she jumps onto me and then CLIMBS up. I have tried trimming her claws but even trimmed they still draw blood and grow back overnight almost. She is three months old and very little, any one else had this problem? What can I do to stop it/stop getting scratched to pieces. All advice welcome.

Join the club! I had three that think I am a unique cat tree- Massey, Scuba and Sonic- I do a gutteral hiss at them when they glom onto me and start climbing, I take them down and place them in a room for about one minute (which they hate) Now the only one that still does it is Sonic, but we are working on stopping her as well.

Congratulations on you new baby Tia. That's a beautiful name.
I know that you will get the human cat tree problem solved in no time...if you survive.

I have the same answer for all you cat owners with cats that like to climb, run, etc-you should have gotten a Persian.

All my cat does is sleep and eat...
He is so perfectly well behaved, I could have gotten a stuffed kitty instead of him-and it would have saved me a bunch of money too.

No, seriously, Persians has got to be the most laid back cats in existance. I did know about the breed description but somehow it didn't occur to me that my cat is actually going to be like that.

Max tries to do this to me, but he's quickly learning that he's too heavy. It worked when he was tiny, but unless I'm wearing really thick jeans he just falls off now!

Sophie doesn't do the climbing up the back with me now that she's older, so instead she jumps on the unit where i'm at then onto my shoulders, all 10lb 1 oz of her, so imagine the marks she leaves across the top of my shoulder blades

Thanks MA, I will try that and see if I can get her to stop. Any advice about teaching her to keep her claws IN? I didn't have that problem with Jasper as raggys keep their claws in about 95% of the time.

Actually I DID very seriously consider getting a persian, but since where I live is very VERY hot during the summer and we don't have central AC I didn't feel that it would be fair to the cat. I didn't want to have him/her shaved every summer and so I decided on a different breed. Jasper doesn't have nearly as much fur as a persian but he is miserable when it gets so hot. That is why we bought a room AC this year. I take him in there and turn it on and he sleeps during the worst of the heat.

But, thanks for the advice, a little late though
! At least Tia won't have the same problem with her sleek little coat

Yea, darn things also got tons of hair. So, basically I got a giant hair ball, that sleeps and eats. And that's my good cat.

My other cat is nutty and freaky and gets sick all the time.

Seriously, next time I will go for a mixed breed cat. I am used to cats with more energy. But if people want a cat that is not going to run, climb, break anything, and basically just lie there and look pretty-Persian is a perfect cat for that.
By the way, what breed is Tia, or is she a mixed breed?
