All the cats except two were spayed/neutered at 2 pounds, 1 was spayed as soon as she was done nursing (feral mamma cat), and the oldest was spayed at 4 months.

Absolutely. It's not optional, in my mind (unless you are a responsible breeder, of course), I consider it one of the basics of responsible ownership - I'd no sooner not alter my pets than I'd not feed them or not give them water or not change the litterboxes, etc.

I have only ever kept one un-neutered cat, the fosters have been done as soon as poss and that was purely because i took her on at 14, and we thought she may have been un-neutered but we needed to wait for her to come into season to find out. When we did find out, we also found out she had mammary cancer. Unfortunately she was also unsociable (still agitated after a mild sedation), so keeping a collar on her was out of the question and she had other health issues too, so we decided not to put her through the stress as it may not have prolonged her life. Luckily as she was so unsociable (she actually lived in a cardboard box in my bathroom) her going out was never an issue, she wouldnt leave the bathroom during the day.

lol. sorry, wellington. i only thought of that after i'd finished posting the poll. i figured that a breeder having unaltered cats would be a given. i'm still trying to figure out how to edit polls. Does anyone know how?

Billy's neutered, CJ is awaiting as soon as I can afford it, and the kittens aren't old enough in my opinion, so I'm going to wait for them.

All our pets get spayed at 6 months or their first heat cycle, whichever comes first. Only one dog so far, and he got neutered at 5 months.

I had Princess spayed the day she was old enough. I got Patsy as an adult from a rescue group and she was done when I got her. We got George done as soon as we determined he was here to stay and not someone elses pet that just came to visit. Sweetie was a feral and the neighbor trapped and spayed her when she was a kitten before we moved in. Blackie also a former feral showed up spayed. We have a new stray (i think) that is just starting to hang out here and as soon as I make sure he's not someone else's he will be fixed too.

Altering of my two big boys actually saved me a lot of money in the long run.

The three kittens will be altered as soon as I have the money.
