I only have one cat (out of 6) who has a medical problem. He's my oldest, Snickers (14 yo male). He had ONE instance of crystals which was very serious. He has been a special diet ever since (some type of low ph canned food?).

I was so scared, I switched all 6 of my cats, girls & boys aged 3 yrs up to 14... to canned-only diet. NO MORE DRY food. My cats get Authority brand from Petsmart and Snicky gets Hills CD low ph.

Also I make it a point to give them all Laxatone now. I have 2 long-haired cats who get the most furious hairballs you'd ever wanna witness! My short-hairs also get hairballs so they get Laxatone. It works wonders!

Patrick has chronic renal failure, has for the past 3 years, I try to buy lower phosphorous foods for him, and mainly canned, but the truth is, he gets what ever he will eat.
Tyler, who has a hx of calcium oxalate stones, early diabetes, early crf, and high bp, is on a wet food diet only, and I need to bit the bullet and get him on a home cooked diet...but at this point, he loves fancy feast and that is what I give him (with a potassium supplement)..he's on various meds as well as the potassium.

The rest of my little darlings are on nutro natural choice complete care weight management, and get a daily dose of wet food with lysine added (something new since Tyler's eye issues).

Hi Sam,
I buy it at my local grocery store. I buy Twinlab brand L-Lysine, in capsule form - then I can open the capsule and give a portion to get the dose I want.

Annie has a vestibular disease, which effects her equilibrium. Mirah has a neurological issue, that doens't effect her much, but they think CJ might have been exposed to panleukopokemia while pregnant, and didn't have enough immunity for the kittens. Anyway, both have neurological issues, Annie's really noticeable, and they both get Iams Kitten formula with a daily dose of Felovite vitamins, prescribed by my vet.

Sebastian had a UTI a few years back. I only feed him quality canned food (with cranberries as an ingredient). He's been healthy ever since.

Kionu has herpes, and he eats canned food with his daily dose of Lysine. I also put triple antibiotic ointment in his eyes and clean them with Eye Envy once a day. If there is a really bad breakout, I give him Idoxuridine eye drops.

Hobbes has no medical problems (touch wood!), but i feed him Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's soul (light formula). He seems to be doing really good on it, it doesn't take him much to become full. Compared to the previous brands i've tried like science diet, he used to chomp up so much more food. He does get the occasional Meow Mix wet pouches about 2-3 times a week, just to balance out his diet with some fish.

Jamie has had some problems with allergies (soy and beet pulp), so he gets dry food (various brands, including Felidae, Serengeti, Nature's Best) containing no soy, and as little dried beet pulp as possible. The canned food he gets (almo nature and Cosma) is just meat or fish and spring water, with perhaps 1% rice. Since he had a rodent ulcer (eosinophilic granuloma), I've been supplementing his food with Omega fatty acids (fish oil capsules).
