Arrggghhh. I'm quite nasty at the moment after spending an hour and more crawling in and out under the house. Which I had been putting off. I wasn't online yesterday as the *&(&^#!! phone-line went out which meant no phone (except for cell) and no internet
. DH pops off to work. I wasn't too worried about it, I spent the day reading the last Harry Potter book (Order of the Phoenix) but along about 10ish decided I might need to do something about it. Tested it and found it was, yes, our inside line somewhere. Took the wires off, cleaned the ends (this has worked before). No dial-tone. Took 'em off, re-stripped the ends. No dial-tone (*sigh*). Noticed that one of the phone-line units in the interface box had a stripped out screw that wasn't tightening down, swapped it out for the un-used one (usually used for a home with two incoming lines), re-stripped the wires again. No dial-tone
.
Arrggghhh. I did NOT want to go under the house where the in-house junction box is. These days I relegate under the house duties to the significant other. So I left it 'til he came home. The only other thing I could tell was that the wire going from the interface to the junction box looked like it had been crushed where the A/C lines had been sitting on it where it went through the block vent. So he crawled under the house, replaced that line (about 7:00 last night) and came out.
No dial-tone
.
I put up with this for a while before I said: "Let's go to the store and pick up an extension and put it into the test jack and run it back through the window, at least then we'll have phone and internet." So this we did. Lying in bed thought of another couple of things I could try to test and at least make sure it was actually our in house wiring and not the telephone interface. So reluctantly, I went under the house this morning (after testing, and yes, it's still something inside,) to check his wiring and see exactly what's in there. Sunny's wiring is ... interesting
.
Anyway, I took all the unused lines off the junction box, disconnected anything else that looked weird (why did he use the yellow wire for the red one???,) re-tightened the wires in the junction box that went to the computer room outlet (the only phone-line in the house we're using right now) and crawled back out.
"We have lift-off!"
Just remember ladies, you can do anything you set your mind to. So how has y'all's Friday morning been
?
Think I'll go take a shower and throw my clothes in the wash now.
