So... I haven't posted much here lately, but this I just couldn't go without sharing with you folks. I posted this on our (mine and my girlfriend's) forums site www.vwvixens.com. This is how my day went:

--

I was working on the bug today (surprisingly didn't get much done, thats a whole nother can o'worms), and needed to get some vaccum line connectors (I used all mine in the kits I sold!). So I hit autozone. None. I hit Kragen. None. I go to the one place I always got them before, Pep boys down on magnolia. I go in, none. Sold out of all the ones I needed.

Anyway, depressed but still determined to get to the wipers, new keys, Autowindow fix, rear EU fog, and a few good passes with leather cleaner for the first time since buying the car... this lady comes up to me and asks "Are you a cat person?"

ominous music

Now, of course I stuttered out a .. yeah. While thinking what the HELL are you talking to me for, about cats, infront of a Pep Boys of all topics/places.

She then followed up with, "Are you interested in 2 small kittens?" and of course I am like wow, this is NOT going to be easy... just say no, and go home. Just say no, and go home.

Then she went RIGHT into the story.

Her and her daughter found these two kittens in their back yard about 2 weeks ago. They bought food for them, and kept a bowl for them out back. She also took them to the vet for some shots, though she couldn't remember what shots exactly. The problem comes in when her husband finds out, and is apparently NOT a cat person.

He gives her an ultimatum, to either get rid of the kittens or he will, by killing them. His compromise was that when they went shopping, her and her daughter would take the kittens and put them in the road while he was getting whatever it was he was shopping for. Of course, and luckily for these kittens, the two couldn't do such a vile thing and instead went to the other end of the parking lot (Pep Boys) and frantically asked someone to take them home.

Now, how the HELL am I going to say no? What are the chances of them finding someone at Pep Boys who's a cat person if I did? What are the chances for these kittens if they're put down even in the corner of a parking lot? What are the chances if he gets back and they haven't put them in the road? What are the chances I could get him to be a little more open minded if I had 4 minutes and a short length of rubber hose and 2 car batteries?

Anyway... So I take them, and a card from the vet they apparently were taken too. They enjoy the beetle ride to Gena's work where I pick up a box to carry them the rest of the way home in. Jalpa was enjoying the area behind the pedals, but that was causing me to have to turn off the car, pull her out, and turn the car back on every other minute! I can't shift without the clutch and I can't push that in if she's sitting behind the pedal.

Anyway, so thats that.

The daughter of the lady actually said "Please don't let daddy kill the kittens."
If they had asked for money I would have sworn it was a setup for a scam. But the kittens are safe now, and Marzal and Jalpa have traded kisses already. Urraco however... well, we're going through it all over again. yey.

Now I'm gonna hit the sack. All 4 of the youngest are going in for shots and de-worming tomorrow, and then at 2pm I actually have an interview at AutoZone LOL... G'nite.
