'Buddy,' the Clintons' Dog, Dies
The Associated Press
Jan 3 2002 7:24AM

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. (AP) - Buddy, the ebullient chocolate retriever who moved from the White House to Chappaqua with President Bill Clinton, was killed by a car near the Clinton home, police said Thursday.
Officer Bruce Cathie of the New Castle police said Buddy was struck Wednesday afternoon in an accident on Route 117, a busy two-lane road at the end of Old House Lane, the cul-de-sac that includes the ex-president's home.

Julia Payne, a Clinton spokeswoman, said neither the ex-president nor his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, was home at the time.

``We are deeply saddened by Buddy's death,'' the Clintons said in a statement issued by Payne. ``He was a loyal companion and brought us much joy. He will truly be missed.''

Police said it was unclear whether Buddy was being walked at the time of the accident or had escaped from the Clinton home. He ``just darted out in front of a car,'' said Officer Larry Green.

Hey Hill and Bill! Are you too important to take proper care of your pets?

You'd think a NY state senator would be aware of the leash laws in her community, no matter how upper crust it is.

Don't want to reveal my source
but I know someone who worked very briefly in the White House who said that poor Buddy was raised to be a little obedient robot. He wouldn't even wag his tail unless told to do so! So, if this is true, I have a hard time believing that he just ran off. Hmmmm. But, then again, this "source" hated the Clintons and everyone in the White House....so who know how reliable the information is.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit to hear that Buddy was a token model dog to help further the myth of the model American first family.

I guess you can see that I am no Clinton fan. How the state of New York was duped into electing Hillary as their senator is a mystery I'll never understand. I guess Rudy Giuliani was meant for bigger and better things to come.

Well, most dogs I know are somewhat like little robots, not all of them, not all the time, but most of them, most of the time. I suppose it is useful to a politician to have a dog that wags on command . . .

I'm not a big Clinton fan, but I'm far more turned off by him than I am by her. I know she overstepped the lines between president and first lady responsibilities, but I have the feeling anything shady she did was at his request. He strikes me as having no sense of morality at all, almost to the point where I would call him a sociopath, and she seems more like one of his victims than a fellow conspirator.

But of course, I don't actually know either of them, so who am I to comment?

After the whole Lewinski deal, someone I know said "What did we (the nation) expect? We knew what he was when we voted for him." Maybe among registered democrats that's true, but I didn't know what he was and I didn't vote for him, and I SURE didn't expect him to turn out to be the trailer trash he is. I think Hilary is better off without him, and may turn out to be a fine senator if that's her goal. Though I don't know if I'd have voted for her.

I have always felt "sorry" for celebrity pets. I think they are many times neglected except during a "photo op". Many times they are acquired only as status symbols and publicity gimmicks.

I am sure that the pets are closer to the Household Staff assigned to walk and feed them; then they are to the actual "celebrity" family members. From what I remember from photos; buddy was a gorgeous chocolate Lab, full of energy. It is a shame he was allowed to get out, with the danger of traffic so close.

I keep getting a pop-up when I ty to post this that says "the cat site is
too busy to use right now". I keep coming back to add to this post because I don't want to loose it to the "Mysteries of Cyber Space"
But, I have just about run out of things to say on this sbject. . . .

TLK

(still can't get posted. . .

Ah, popularity. . . .
)
I know from past experience; if I leave this location, my post is toast! This, however; is very boring. . . . .
:afrorainb :girly2:
Still too busy. . . . . Come on, guys, lunch break is over; back to work!

Deb25,

I do agree with you about the leash laws and trying to be portrayed as the perfect "American Family".

Don't be too quick to pat Rudy Giuliani on the back just yet. NYC is SUPPOSED to have a 7 day kill (euthanization)policy in their kill shelters. He changed the rules and made them 24 hour kill policies. And instead of hiring someone knowledgable in animal control, he gave the job to one of his friends who has no CLUE as to what he is doing.

As much as I commend him for his actions after the WTC disaster, his morals as well as his compassion for homeless animals have ALOT to be desired.

A cat by the name of Tucker was rescued from a NYC kill shelter less than 24 hours prior to being killed because no one wanted him. Thanks Rudy

Yes.

And the Kennedys.

And Princess Diana.

And Darva Conger. And Monica Lewinski. And Tom Arnold. And a whole bunch of other people that were in the public eye once.

And just when you think we're finally rid of them, somebody will do a "where are they now?" show about them.

Since he has taken office, I have seen him with 3 different dogs, and not at the same time. I've heard that the dogs have obedience problems, and rather than train the dogs, he just gets another one. Hmmm makes me wonder what happened to the original dog? Our shepherd is trained to heel whether she is on leash or off, and we can open our front door and she will walk outside on our command and hop in the truck, even if she sees the dog across the road, or a cat walking the railroad tracks. It ticks me off that people don't train a dog, there was no reason for Buddy to die such an unneccessary death.

Well, if this dog was so trained to wag on command, then why didn't anybody teach him to stay out of the street?

I'm with you, krazykat, the sooner this family is doing nothing more than appearing on the Weakest Link version of celebrity losers, the better.

Not to mention that when the Bushes moved into the White house they gave thier cat away! That irked me. How do you just give your family pet away? They said it was because they were afraid it would ruin the antique furniture or whatever. Anyway I remember this because I read an articel about how the cat went missing for two weeks after the new owner got him.

That was really insensitive of them to give their cat away, I know of a couple past presidents, and I'm sure their are more, who have had cats in the white house with no problems.

I read the same thing about the cat. But the story I read said that the cat had a urination problem, and they decided not to risk it. I have to say I respect that stance. I don't think it came from bad pet ownership, but respect for the office. The same story said that socks had a problem with peeing on furniture and the bushes didn't want to go through that, because really the white house and everything in it belongs to this country. They are in a sense 'renters' and are being respectful of the office. That bothers me less than a national heirloom being piddled on by cat. Apparently it didn't bother the clintons.
