Three years ago when my ex-husbnd and I got divorced, we had 2 cats, I took one cat(my Jack), and he kept the other, this way the kids would have pets at both homes. Well my ex got re-married 4 months ago, whom also had 2 cats, and one of them is mean and aggressive to our cat, always beating up on it etc....so now the cat that was ours, has secluded herself to just one room on a perch, and she never comes out of this small room...even to eat. She has lost a lot of weight, and has become somewhat "stiff" from the lack of exercise. Anyway, my ex called and has asked me if I want to try having Camie here with me (well that took no thought on my part) to see if she can come back out of her shell.
I now have 3 cats of my own, but she may remember the cat that we had together(Jack), but I don't know how to introduce her to my other 2 cats...
Any suggestions???

Please click here to read a thread on how to introduce a new cat to your resident cats. I hope the introduction is successful (that is so sad that your old cat has been so traumatized).

I also suggest that you take the scared stiff cat to the vet to make sure that the weight loss and stiffness are not due to an illness that needs to be treated. Stress can cause a lot of physical problems in cats, so the poor thing may be ill on top of being scared.

Good luck and keep us updated on how the cat is doing.

Thanks!!!
I have read the thread, and I have a room set up with food, water and litter box ready for her arrival later tonight. And yes a trip to the vet will be high on the list of things to do tomorrow..

OK, I have Camie back....she is home now...
She is quite scared, but she did eat some food for me, and she is purring loudly when she will let me pet her!! She does have 3 other cats sitting outside the door wanting in, so it may be a long night ahead of me, but I am so glad to be able to give her a "fighting" chance here with me.

OK, the night went well..Camie jumped in bed with me(I slept in her room), but she never laid next to me, she just head-butted me alot for more petting, and then would lay at my feet...

She is shedding sooooo much right now, more than I have ever seen a cat shed before, could this be due to all of the stress she has been under??

Also, my best friend is allergic to cats, and her allergies go nuts with black cats, and Camie is all black...
She came over last night to see how I was doing with my new addition, and had to leave right away due to allergy...any suggestions on how to help so my friend could continue to come around??? She had done ok with 2 of my cats,(not all black), and limits the time she spends with my tortie, but Camie(black) just sent her over the edge last night...
Any suggestions please...
Thanks for all of the kind thoughts and words from all....

I know my two are shedding terribly despite being brushed but their shedding their winter coats at the moment so it could be that?!.

Cats will do "stress shedding" where they practically dump their fur when really anxious or scared. Given what she is going through, it doesn't surprise me that she is shedding like crazy.

Do you think your friend can take a bunch of allergy medicine before visiting? I have a friend who "dopes up" before visiting so that she can manage to stay for more than an hour or so.

She has tried the Benedryl routine before, but now she is taking Zyrtec, and can't take any other allergy relief with it, or she wont be able to drive herself home...
Thanks for the suggestions...
I have been brushing Camie alot today, and there is no end to the hair..
But things are settling down. She is coming up to me as soon as I enter the room, wanting love...

I had someone suggest this to me:

Buy those fish oil vitamins, and then break them over kitty's food every morning. Apparently the oil helps with dander and keeps her coat nice and shiny too!
