Oh, yeah, I must admit, that *is* the huge downside to not having your period, not getting that reassurance that you're not pregnant - I am always so afraid that even though the chances are slim, I will get pregnant and be one of those people who doesn't find out until they're like seven months along or something (when it's too late for an abortion) - I am probably singlehandedly supporting the HPT industry
, I take SO many of them (like one a week, seriously, I'm that paranoid) - you can buy them really cheap online, though, which I finally did (because I was going broke buying the $10 at the drug store), and it really helps my peace of mind, so you could always do that too if you think it will reassure you. Glad you have found something that may help, I have no personal experience with the nuvaring, so can't offer advice there, sorry, but I hope it helps you!

never tried Depo, contemplated Norplant when I was in college but couldn't afford it. Been on the pill since I was 16 until I divorced, so it's kinda nice not being on it, OR worrying about pregnancy (I'm not active at present
) I started on the pill because my periods were sooo erratic I was getting anemic, but after 12 years of training I think my body's finally gotten the idea - I've been regular as clockwork since I quit the pill. The WORST PMS I ever had were the first two months I started using the pill - started on a tri-cyclic and it played HELL with my cycle. My mother the NURSE took me to the ER, I was having cramps so bad!!!! We switched to a low-dose and I didn't have any problems after that, or since.
Guess I'll count my blessings!!

Oh I am so with you all! I realized yesterday when I raided my mothers desk at work and stuffed my mouth with gummi fish that Aunt Flo should be here today. Which is also aggravating at the moment. I'm hot and moody and all that yet no aunt flo. The only good thing is I KNOW I am not preg bc my husband has been away since April! But it's like ok just come out already so I can be rid of you! Oooo.....just remembered there is chocolate cake in the fridge. Had a few slices of that yesterday too. Pepridge Farm chocolate cake...things are looking up!

Then I went on Depo-Provera, so now I don't have a period at all, which means I don't have any of the horrible symptoms that go along with it - Depo's gotten a really bad name, and it definitely isn't good for everyone, but for me it's been a godsend (and I haven't had any other side effects, either).
I used depo for the past year because I could no longer use b/c due to high blood pressure, and even though my period wasn't "normal", I would have random spotting a few times during some months and other times not at all. Around the time that I was "supposed" to ave m period, I would still get cramps even though I wasn't bleeding. My doctor says that is common as well. I have mixed feelings. I haven't been "active" since last year so right now I have mixed feelings about getting my next one.

When I was younger, I was put on b/c because I would loose a TON of blood and have major cramps. I do agree that the 2nd day of our monthly friend is the worst!

I get PMS every month, but mainly it's just a kill-everyone kind of feeling vs. being physically ill. My OBGYN wanted to put me on the birth control pill to help alleviate the 'highs and lows' (mood swings) of being female, but I told him no-thanks. I didn't wanna mess with my hormones any more than they have already been messed with!

So I quit taking them after 5 weeks. I had to wait for my period to come before going back on my ortho-tri cyclen, so I was off pills for 3 weeks before it came. I had the absolute worst cramps, was very tired and achy for the full 5 days. I just started back to my regular ortho-tri cyclen pills Sunday and I am much happier now!
Isn't it funny how differently our bodies react?? Ortho-Tricyclen was the first pill I was ever on and it was miserable! I threw up all of the time, felt bloated almost constantly, and was just soooo unhappy with it! Finally I found Yasmin and it's been like my savior! No sickness (other than brief nausea, which is the best I've had so far with any pill), no bloating, and total happiness! I just always find it interesting to discover how differently we each can react to the same thing!

That is so interesting! I guess your my complete opposite

If it makes any difference, my doctor also said I was having an odd effect from the Yasmin. So thinking I was crazy, I went home and researched it online and found that several people had the same reaction as me. That made me feel much better

I forgot to mention I tried the orth- tricyclen lo dosage version for a year before the Yasmin. That didn't work for me because it made my period come whenever the heck it felt like, and that was about every 2 weeks

I believe I have learned to adopt the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it theory" on all the new medications coming out. I was happy with my old and I am not changing ever again

Just kidding
. I have a strange period sometimes it will come monthly sometimese every other month and sometimes every 3 months. Once in a while I will be lucky and just get moody pms symptoms, but most of the time the 1st 3 days I don't want to move , eat or be bothered( hard to do with 2 kids and 2 cats ). I also have heavy periods that make it all the more uncomfortable. I never have been on the pill and will never be on it for personal beliefs. I guess it is just part of being a women . oh well it's better than being a man.

Catlover- have you ever been checked for anything?

I say that because my periods are NASTY! I have endometriosis, and wasn't diagnosed until a few years ago, and this was after years of heavy periods. I also had cramps that went around my entire abdominal area, and they'd last for 2-3 days at a time. Your irregular periods could be a sign of something else, such as PCOS.

I take the pill continuously, and don't get periods until I absolutly HAVE to. I don't like taking them, but it's either that or be a total witch to my husband and kids for a week every single month

I had endometriosis and ovairan cysts when i was younger...had surgeries for them as well...the doctor told me yesterday that the method (the ring) i'm trying now is best b/c i'll be going 3 months without my period and during that time is when i am miserable....but my pills did help regulate and ease the pain but the ring seems to be doing okay...but this is only my 2nd day...only side effect so far was a brief moment of nauseas this morning but it went away quickly.

No, it's an implant just under the skin on my arm about 2 inches long.
