A few weeks ago, my senior cat stopped eating. After appetite enhancers, I was able to get him to eat some Friskies and Whiskas, but not his normal foods. I then discovered that he loves the Fancy Feast flavors that come in gravy or sauce. Since he was borderline for hepatic lipidosis, I have been feeding him anything he'll eat, which means lots of Fancy Feast.

Since his appetite has recovered, I would like to switch him back to a higher quality (no by-products, no wheat) food. Since he seems to love the gravy, I think that a wet food with some sort of sauce would be the easiest to get him to eat. I have already tried giving him the Nutro pouches, and he looked at me like I was bonkers. Does anyone have suggestions of a good wet food with a similar consistency to the Fancy Feast?

Oh boy....I wish Active Life were actively being shipped yet...I was told middle of July...it is something for you to try as soon as stores have it again -the shredded has a fair bit of juicy/gravy with it.

I'm afraid in this house, we still use a lot of Fancy Feast with my two ailing oldsters. I try to upgrade but w/out much success. I *think* the PetGuard organic chicken and rice is a bit soupier.. as are the wysong just meat canned. Well you've got me stumped since you already mentioned nutro pouches. Hmm...believe it or not the meow mix pouches, if you check the labels, some are not bad at all on the ingredients, and they do have gravy..might be worth a try.

I bet Nutro Natural Choice canned will do the trick. Petsmart will have it.

Thank you. If Spot ever stays well for more than three days, I'll be looking for those foods. Unfortunately, he ended up with other issues shortly after I posted the question.

Sorry to hear that.
I was going to suggest the Nutro "minis", i.e., the 3 ounce cans. Most of those varieties have gravy; the veal doesn't.

Good question! Bijou also loves Fancy Feast and I suspect it really is for the gravy. But at our last vet visit she said we shouldn't give him Fancy Feast as she has a lot of cats come in with crystals that are on a Fancy Feast diet so he doesn't get it anymore.

I know he misses it because he just doesn't pounce on his wet food with the same enthusiasm as before.
