Hi there everyone.

My dad is in New Orleans today. He is going in for his 4th operation on his hip replacement.

It all started 4 years ago when a Sheriff hit my dad head on. It was on a back road out in the country. The sheriff was going 65 miles per hour and my dad as well. From impact my dads tool box with 20 years worth of tools (it was also bolted to the truck) was thrown out and over to the other side of the road!!! For days afterwards looking over the scene we found my dads power tools in half.

The sheriffs partner was killed instantly. My dad laid there for 30 minutes until someone got there to help. Cars passing by and no one would stop!! My dads neck was broken, all of his ribs, one ankle, and shattered his left hip. The doctors in New Orleans tried to piece his hip back together but couldnt. So they did a hip replacement which they didnt want to do. He was only 47 then.
Anyways, he had the hip replacement and it got infected. They opened it and cleaned it out. Got infected 3 more times. The last infection they opened it and just left it open and put a wound vac attatched to it. Took 10 months for it to close but still hasnt closed all the way. Now he has another infection.

Today they are taking out the hip replacement and putting in a plastic antibiotic tub in its place. That means a wheelchair for a year. They will try the hip replacement again then.
Just asking everyone for positive vibes for my poppy bear today.

I
him and wish I could be there with him.

Wow thats horrible. (I'm 47!!) Hopefully everything will start healing up the way it should and the time in the wheelchair passes quickly and without incident.
My godmother (late 60's) had a hip replacement and feel a few months later. She had to have the surgery repeated so I feel your family's pain.
Its a shame on humanity that no one stopped to assist.

Thanks to everyone!!!!

My dad says he can remember hearing alot of cars slowly pass by as if they were looking. But then sped away. I guess they thought everyone was dead. But one brave girl and her boyfroend did stop. She was then only 17. Her boyfriend was too scared to go near the vehicles but he used his cell phone to call 911. The girl stayed with my dad the whole time until the ambulance helicopter got there. My dad says he kept telling her he just wanted to sleep. But she knew if he closed his eyes he might not open them ever again. So she kept talking to him. My dad said she was asking him EVERYTHING!!! Like .. how old he was and how many kids he has and where did he work. Anything to keep him awake. That girl left once the ambulance got there and we never found out her name. I think she was his angel.

Again.... Thanks to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! For your thoughts and good vibes for my dad.

Thank you for your good vibes. It made me laugh when you said if he wants to join us on TCS b/c they have a cat named Gumbo.... she was a wild cat but they took her in b/c she was soooo loveable. They got her fixed but b/c she was already an adult when they took her in she was so used to being outside, so she is an outside cat. My dad claims he doesnt like cats yet everyday he sits outside on the porch in his chair and just rubs her silly.
i told him to just admit he
s her. He said he couldnt b/c I might have a tape recorder in my pocket...

So he for sure
s that baby.

Here is a picture of GUMBO....

Gumbo is a sweetie!

Your "poppy bear" comment earlier reminded me of my Dad, who has been my "pear-shaped bear" for eons, and my great-nieces' "Poppy". His attitude to cats just makes that more so -- Dad always said he didn't like cats, but Gryphon [RB] was "his" cat
, and he has pictures of our current crew on his wall.

I wanted to take a second to update everyone on my dads condition.

They said the surgery would take 2 to 3 hours. Well, they took him in this morning at 10:30 and finished at 8:30 tonight. They ended up having to take everything out. Even the metal plates that were put in there right after the accident. Everything was very badly infected. Because they had to take out the metal plates, there is a HUGE chance he will never walk again.

Also, he lost 5 pints of blood and is now in ICU. My mom said he looks grey and is hooked up to alot of machines right now.

Thank everyone for your sweet words and great vibes. Please keep them coming I know now we need them more than ever.

I LOVE YOU POPPY BEAR!!!!!!
