We just bought our house back in April. The kitchen appliances---though fully functional----are a bit dated. We plan on completely re-doing the kitchen next summer but until then, we are stuck with these appliances. In particular, I hate the fridge. I think it is actually older than I am
(I'm 27, so you get the idea). I call it "Frankenfridge" because one of the shelves is held together at the sides with duct tape
It makes the most God-awful noises, too. You should see the looks on the faces of my cats when it gets loud. We bought a one year house warranty, hoping a few of the appliances would die and the warranty would replace them---but no such luck so far. Every night when I go to bed, I hope the fridge will pass away overnight. Unfortunately, I think my zombie fridge will live just to torment me

Well, I can't say I hate it, but I feel my fridge has got to go. My mom bought it when they moved in here 10 years ago because she thought it looked nice with the countertops, but Mom's never had much of a decorator's eye (the entire house is still Contractor White
).
So I have black (speckled w/gray) laminate countertops and a black fridge, tho all the other appliances are white and the cabinets are light oak
Sure, the fridge looks great w/the countertops, but together they make the kitchen feel like a 7x6 cell, instead of light and airy and open. So the kitchen is the 2nd big project (after I get the master bedroom recarpeted). I plan on replacing the countertops, the linoleum and that fridge ASAP - hopefully before winter!

Yep! We just bought this house in December, so i am not that fond of most of the appliance. I will deal with them for now though. I absolutely HATED the washer and dryer. Neither of them worked right. It would take hours to do a load of laundry. We had been saying since we moved in that we needed to go buy new ones, but just never got around to it! well, the washer finally died. Our new ones were delivered last week. I am in heaven. I have been washing all the clothes, etc that have piled up because it took me so long to wash before! I knew the others were bad, but I didn't realize how bad until i got oens that work properly!

Frankenfridge?
That's almost as funny as your "Merkcedes"
.
I hate our central A/C unit- it doesn't keep the apt. as cold as I'd like on the especially humid days. During the summer (even though I keep the thing set at 70), it doesn't drop below 76 degrees in the house until after midnight!

Erica, if the fridge is still in good working order, you could just paint it. I've seen it on HGTV. There's a special "Appliance Enamel" paint that's like a spray paint. It would sure be cheaper than buying a new refrigerator!

My microwave

It's just under 2 years old, quite flash, digital etc and it has a grill. But... I am scared to use it! You would think I would know how to use it seeing as I am good with computers, phones etc but the microwave
It has all these buttons and you can type in the weight of the food for defrost or something but I just can't figure it out even if I read the manual! lol I just stick to plain old heating things up in there, the rest of the gadgets can RIP!

Yeah, enamel paint is great! But word of warning, make sure you do this OUTSIDE. That stuff is likely to go everywhere! I sprayed my bathroom radiator chrome and am still finding little chrome particles about the place! Oh and make sure you wear a mask, even if you do spray outside

Every appliance in my apartment has been there since the place opened 15 years ago. I've been WILLING them to die for a couple of years now but they just WON'T!
Also, after the hurricanes last year a lot of people had to move out and as they were redoing those apartments they put in BRAND NEW APPLIANCES in every place that was vacant. They also got a darker wood for their cabinets and I'm SO jealous!!! I'm thinking of begging them to put the new appliances in (which they would anyway, once we moved out) while we're still living there. The ones we have are ugly and loud and just UGH!

I'm glad I'm not the only one cursed with a "Frankenfridge"

Our coffeemaker... The switch sparked and then it quit. I now boil water and pour it through the filter.
I haven't bought a new one, because 2 people said they would give me theirs. As soon as I buy one they will probably both come through.

I don't like my stove. In my old place, I had one of those ceramic "smooth" cooktops, and this stove is your basic swirly-heated ring things instead of a smoooooth cooktop.

The smooth cooktops are WAY easier to clean, especially, if you're the kind of cook I am (messy messy messy) then the regular stovetops are a nightmare!

One thing I won't miss when I leave this place is the stove. It's sooo underpowered!. Takes forever for the thing to heat up...and oh yah the broiler stopped working last month.

My appliances are all ok-just had the thermostat replaced in the refrigerator last week.

But my housekeeping tip: when the repairman was inspecting the refrigerator he said that we should be cleaning the coils underneath and vaccuuming underneath monthly due to the number of cats. I mentioned that to a couple of my co-workers and they said they had never done this before!!!! OMG I clean it at least quarterly. Your refrigerator will work alot less harder to keep the food cool.

I just bought a dehumifier last Sat and have been running it in the basement where the manure pit oops I mean litter boxes are located. Hopefully it will help with some odor problems we have doen there in the summer.

The only appliance is the TV in the kitchen which I wanted to replace back in march.
The picture goes flippping around and you have to smack the sides of the TV which I'm sure isn't good for the TV!!!!

One appliance I really hate is my dishwasher. It's so lazy I don't know why I ever bought it. I can leave the kitchen in a wreck all day and when I go back in to check, the dishwasher has still done nothing! I see the dishes right where I left them on the table and counter! I mean, this thing is supposed to wash dishes, right?!... right?!!! Well, this useless heap of metal and plastic waits until I'm so fed up that I put the darn dishes in there myself!!! Stupid, lazy dishwasher!!!
And if that isn't enough, I have to put the soap in there myself! You'd think the dishwasher would know to put soap in, but nooooo... I have to put it in!
And when this bucket of bolts finally goes to work it makes more noise than all of my other appliances put together!!! Once, just once... I'd like to walk into the kitchen to find the dishes all done!!! Don't even get me started on the stove!

Just kidding!
Kelly, have you tried asking Frankenfridge to play outside in traffic? Maybe he'll ummmm... have an accident?

My washing machine.
It was great, until Jeremy's brother, who lived with us until recently, decided to repeatedly overload it.
He was told many, many times how many t-shirts, pairs of jeans, etc could be done at a time, he never listened.

Now, even with a light load, the bearings are stripped and groan and complain any time I do the wash.

Steph, my mom had one of those smooth cooktop stoves. She accidentally dropped something (a ceramic bowl or something else that was rather heavy) on it and the whole thing shattered and had to be replaced. It was expensive and annoying!

So, I agree with you that they are SO easy to clean and they look excellent
. But seeing what she went through to replace the stovetop made me thankful for my old-fashioned stove!
