I have an 11 year old male black smoke Persian.

He has started losing the hair from the middle of his back, and when I look closely, there are small brown scabs peeling off in many places. The skin under these scabs looks normal.

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem?

Could be a lot of thing and it should be properly diagonsed so you baby can get the right treatment.

Whatever the case you need to take him to the vet.

No he doesn't go out. But he has caught fleas in the past. I suspected fleas a month ago when I saw him scratching. So I gave him some of those drops that you sprinkle on the back of the neck. I haven't seen any sign of fleas and I can only find these scabs along his spine.

For anyone interested, I've posted a photo of the affected area at www.bfgc.dynalias.com
