Hi kittylover4ever,

Some movies are good, some are OK and some are crap. But every once in a great while a movie comes along that transcends all the traditional categories, and flings wide the doors onto vast, sprawling new vistas of crap! "War of the Worlds" is just such a movie. My wife and I took a family friend to see it last week, and we spent our entire dinner complaining about everything that went horribly wrong in this movie. In fact, we went home and watched our video of the 1953 version just to cleanse our mental palates.

I had hijacked Marge's Tom Cruise thread over in IMO to say how lousy War was. It had no plot! There was running, hiding, rampant destruction, and an ending that was so ridiculous that it was just the icing on the cake.

Shame on Steven Spielberg.

I quite enjoyed it to be honest. For the money I spent, it was a worthwhile couple of hours from my day. There's a million and one ways I could pull this film apart at the seems, in terms of plot realism, but when you go see something like this you have to drop all that and accept the film for what it is. I have a hard time doing that sometimes, but these days I tend not to listen to hype and I take films like this as they come. Something might be good and suprise me, but I generally don't get massively excited about the prospect of a Spielberg film these days.

Yeah, some of it was laughable, and the ending was way too rushed. But, I thought it was good to watch. Don't think I'd go again, or buy the dvd!

I really enjoyed it. Obviously this isn't the kind of remake you're meant to put a lot of thought into. A movie like this one is meant to be a mindless couple of hours spent at the theater. Sometimes it's nice to go to the theater and not have to think about anything, to just sit and take it for what it is and simply relax. I thought that it was a great action movie and not meant to be deep or (obviously) to be exactly like the original. I've never been a fan of looking too hard into movies, as IMO, they're meant as a temporary escape for the mind where even the highly impossible can happen and plot holes (which quite a few movies have) are to be overlooked (for the most part). So all-in-all, I enjoyed my couple of hours spent watching it.

I'm glad you liked it Katherine. I haven't seen it yet, but intend to just because it was filmed in my hometown, Naugatuck, CT. I havent been there for years.

I've read enough comments, reviews and heard enough opinions from friends that I won't waste my time with this movie. I had high hopes for it too, so that would just make me dislike it more.

I'll have to go by what other people say as to how the movie is...I don't think I could ever bring myself to watch it.

I'm a bit of a baby...get scared watching those kinds of movies!
...gives me nightmares

I don't mind the answer being a spoiler- but does it end the same as it did in the original? I keep hearing about the ending being bad, and although I loved the original, the ending was kind of a let down! If you don't want to answer this on for everyone to see, feel free to PM me. Maybe then I can decide if I want to shell out 6 bucks for the early show.

I saw it with my boyfriend. It scared the **** out of me!!! I ususally hate movies like that, and I din't think I would like War of the Worlds, but I did!!! the effects were amaing and the acting was great. Dakota Fanning is a great actress, and Tom Crusie, even though he is crazy, was great in it. It's the type of movie we expect to see in the summer.

Batman Begins was a great one too!!

My take on it is, if you want to see what an alien invasion could be like, and how frightening it would be to have the world as you know it come to an end... go see it, it'll scare the crap out of you in that aspect.

BUT, don't expect any riveting acting. The plot blows and Cruise has just started to flat out annoy me but the special effects are magnificent (see it on the big screen or on a HDTV when the DVD is released) and the idea of what they're story-telling the invasion experience to be like will creep you out for hours!!!
