I wanted to share this with you all because I see so many posts by people who are constantly having trouble with thier cats who vomit and get diherrhia and cats who can't gain weight. I tried a variety of high quality dry and canned. Even the natural kind. Nothing worked for my poor female bengal who I think had IBS. She couldn't gain weight and she had diherrhia (sp?) contantly.
I switched my cats to raw meat-like what they would eat in the wild.
I had my reservations about feeding them raw. About worms and salmonella. But since I have switched my cats fur have become silky soft and shiney. My cats NEVER have diherrhia. The poop has NO SMELL- absolutely none!!!! And no worms. My female has gained as much weight as she needs in a short period of time and my male slimmed down. (he was overweight).
So far it's been about 2 months and everything is going very well. The cats took a little bit to get used to the new diet but now they will not touch anything else. I had to mix the raw in with canned food and gradually decrease the canned till there was only raw.
Here is my recipie. You can make a large batch and save it in the fridge. warm up enough for them to eat in one sitting and remove any left over food after about 20-30 minutes. I have found that cats do not get sick even if the meat sits out longer then that but I wouldn't recommend it.
RECIPIE:
4 lbs. chicken thighs (skin on). Cut up in small cubes. I feed them the skin along with the meat but cut out the bones and throw them away as they are too large for the cats to eat. If you have a meat grinder, that is even better-grind up the bones and feed the whole thing bones and all.
1/2 container (plastic containers from grocery store) chicken livers, Chopped.
4 TBS. bone meal (if you did not grind up the bones and add them already) You can get powdered bone meal from a health food store.
wild trax feline suppliment (according to directions) or another type of feline suppliment meant to be fed with raw meat. Make sure it contains enough taurine.
2 capsules fish liver oil.
1/2 cup water
mix it all up and put in freezer baggies and put in refrigerator. If your not going to use the whole batch within 5-7 days (and you won't if you don't have a lot fo cats) then freeze some of it in individual servings.
I feed twice, sometimes 3 times per day. I remove any left overs from the prior servings and throw them away.
Now im not an expert in this im am just giving you my experiances on how it's working out for my cats. So far I am VERY happy with the results of feeding my cats a diet almost identical to what they would eat in the wild.
If you decide to do this you'll probably be very happy too but don't blame me if it dosen't work out for you
