Holly was fixed Wednesday and came home with thin wire stitches.

She seems fine, but she won't stop PULLING on them!!! She's not just licking, she's pulling. I'm not worried she'll pull them out, but this can't be a good thing.

Once she starts I have to sit there keeping her from doing it until she finally gives up and sits down properly to snooze. It really freaks -and grosses- me out, but is it bothering me more than it will her?

Should I be worried enough to force her to wear a cardboard collar?

You should really get her a e-collar... We had a dog who pulled them out and she chewed on her intesticts(sp?)

I think it would be safest with a cone. My dog just had surgery and pulled out his stitches, so he had to get a cone, and I cringed when I read your post. The thought of grabbing onto the staples or wire and pulling, ugh *shudders*. I think it would be easiest to get a cone, but I don't know how well it'd work, since cat's are amazingly flexible. I made a cone (out of construction paper) and tried it on Buffy, and it seemed to work, so maybe a regular cone would work as well.

They gave me a post-care info page and on the back there are instructions for making a light weight cardboard cone for a cat. I think I will do that and then call the vet and see if I can pick a real one up tomorrow.

Is this about right? I think it's big enough. It's a 10" plate with about an inch cut off the outer edge and a 7 inch or so whole for her head...

I think Holly's cone will really help. She will feel fine in no time. I love the picture. Your kitties are both beautiful. Thanks for having her spayed. Keep us updated.

There was never a question on the spay... I don't understand people who don't do it
But thanks for the thanks anyway!

I hope it works... oh it just pains me, and like I said, grosses me out, to see her pulling on those things. I inspected them and none of them have come out, but the little puncture holes where they come through are red and she may have torn a little tiny bit of skin in doing it. Should I put Neo -or- Polysporin on it, now that she can't lick it?

She's adjusted quickly, is snoozing on her favorite tree perch (which she jumped up to the top easily just five minutes after having the collar on) although she was dddddddrrraaaging it along the wall earlier... a rather horrid sound!

The joke is that it's hurricane damage... she walked outside and got brained by a paper bowl
AS IF... our kids aren't allowed outdoors!

I'm sure you're keeping a close eye on them
because if the redness gets worse, esp if there's puffiness and/or drainage, it could be infected. DO NOT PANIC YET!!
As long as it's getting better day by day you're all right.
