. . . to keep the cats out!

Well, not locked, I guess. But I've shut the doors. With three cats, all of whom want my attention, some times I just need some time to myself. With both Sheba and Purdy, the minute I sit down, they jump into my lap. Sometimes one will be in my lap and the other on the arm of the office chair (where there really isn't enough room) or laying on my desk right behind my keyboard or in front of my monitor. Then Red Cat comes in and begs for attention. And the last couple of days, 14.7 pound Red Cat, who normally isn't much of a lap kitty at that size, has been clingy, too. I hate to shut them out of the room, but man, I can't do anything with three clingy vines!

Anyone else ever get to that point?

I can't shut any doors in my place or I will surely hear muffled meows and scratches on the other side of the door.
Sometimes it sounds like they're going to knock it down.

Lex was just on my lap, but didn't like the fact that I was typing, and decided he'd had enough and left.

Well, I heard scratching on the door for a while, and I had to pound on the door to scare them off a couple of times, but they finally gave up.

Not with my current cat but have other times. I house sat for a friend and her cat got really attached, and was always in your lap. I felt so bad cause on a hot day I locked her out once.

I'm surprised that yours have each other to play with that they just want to sit on a lap.

I felt really bad for my houseguest - she's not used to cats period, and my cats are accustomed to sleeping two or three in the bed, so when she closed the door to keep 'em out, they pawed at the door for a good two hours and she couldn't sleep!!!

I, personally, wouldn't be able to sleep without a cat on the bed with me! But just once, I would like to go to the bathroom without a train of furries tryin to follow me into the loo!!!!!!!

They do play with each other occasionally, but all three were raised as outdoor cats. Well, at least I think they were. Red Cat was for sure, Sheba came from a colony that developed after a 94-year-old rural lady went to a nursing home, and Purdy had been seen as a stray living in my neighborhood for at least six months before I took him in. So their idea of play is to go out and chase rodents and birds. Occasionally they chase each other inside, but as older boys (about age nine), they aren't as active as they once were. Sheba will play with toys inside for short periods, but the boys almost never any more.

They all just want to be cuddled and petted when I don't let them outside.
I twice timed it by petting Red Cat as long as he wanted to be petted, until he allowed me to stop and didn't reach for my hand or head bump me to continue. Once it was 45 minutes, once it was 55 minutes before he "let" me quit. Otherwise I just have to walk off.

Stares at you? Purdy and Sheba jump on my lap even when I'm on the throne! At the least, they and Red Cat head bump me to be petted. In the morning I sometimes have all three of them follow me into the loo.

Try three cats AND a large-breed dog giving you the eye!!! At least I can't smell the kits' breath!!!!

When we moved to a new house 2 years ago, my incredibly patient hubby asked if we "could please try" closing the cats out of the bedroom at night since he was losing so much sleep trying not to roll on one during the night

We had a bit of scratching the first couple of nights, but then they adjusted incredibly well. No scratching or even "calling us" after that.

You must understand that we had about a dozen cats at the time, and 14 now -- I'd still love to have them in there with us, but even I have to confess I'm getting more sleep

I've had to do that when I've worked from home.

Two of the cats want to be held and rest their heads on my shoulder. This means one handed typing which isn't too efficient. The other one is a lap kitty and she likes to spread out so I'm too far from the keyboard.

So out of desperation of needing to get work done, the cats have to be outside the computer room.
where they can stare at me through the door glass.
