Hi there,

My neighbour Mark is about to trap a cat that he sees at work everyday. Apparently it will sit a few feet away from him... They haven't made contact yet... The girl who works with him believe that the cat has been declawed...

They suspect, because it is a particularly good looking cat that it is a stray... Or may have even been dumped for behavioural issues...

What sort of stuff would he need to know about what to expect from the cat when he gets it into his home. He has a parrot and a small gold finch too
...

Should he keep it in one room first? And follow the standard procedure for new cats?

I've never had any experience with a cat that may or may not be feral being IN the house before.... And i'm not sure that he has either...

Does any one have the checklist for this situation
??

I would try the one room to give the kitty a smaller area to get used to. And be prepared to give the cat some time to get used to being inside.

Is he going to take the cat for a vet check before letting it out in his house? That might be a good idea in case it stays wild. He may not easily get it to the vet again. And maybe the vet can give him something to calm him down the first few days?

Check AlleyCat Allies for pointers on ferals. Good luck!

That's a good point... Perhaps a calmative would be a good idea. I guess it's not so bad if they find out that he has been declawed... I mean it would be a huge shame but as far as them being able to handle him is concerned it'll make things a wee bit easier... Will let him know...

Any other suggestions?
