Hi, I just joined up because I wonder if anyone else has a cat as strange as mine! I have had cats forever (and that's a long time), and have 4 at the moment. Our latest, Goblin, was handed to me by a woman with a cage outside the supermkt in early Oct. (hence his name) and I couldn't say no. He's pure white (albino, I guess), with ice blue eyes and seems to have normal hearing, though his voice is tiny. Not only is he apparently a relative genetic rarity (and the litter he came from was all dark tabbies, etc.) but has a strange behaviour... When he wants to check out something, he sits straight up on his hind legs with forepaws hanging down, and looks around like a meercat, but not just for 1-2 secs. like other cats do, but stays there for lots longer, and repeats it all day at various times. I realize he's probably just peculiar, but it is very funny, and does make me wonder (not really!) if he has meercat in his genes! Has anyone else got one of these?

I've had cats do that to. Some more than others, some not at all. It is a funny sight, tho.

Been around cats myself all my 48+ years. Welcome to the site!

Mine does that too....

If you could train him to wear a small pair of bunny ears when he's sitting up like that and then take it a picture it'd be really cute.

Hi, if you kitty was a true albino he would have pink eyes not blue.
Regardless he sounds unique and wonderful. When the cats are allowed to run outside and indiscrimately mate, then usually the females mates with one or two or even three males that can result in litters that showcase all colors, because the kittens have more than one father. I wonder if you cat would fetch? I had a cat that used to set up on her haunches a lot, and she loved to play fetch with a small ball.

My mom's cat, who is a almost-2 yr. old male Manx, does the exact same thing. And he'll sit there for what seems like forever! He does it to show interest in things, to see better, to peek over the couch, etc... We call him our little "gopher-boy"!

He is definetly not albino. Albinos have red eyes.

Siamese are noted "fetchers" and mine is no exception. She sits up on occasion too to observe her surroundingd but not for the length of time yours does. Goblin does sound cute!!

Hi again, I think if you ended up (and don't bother for heaven's sake) doing the research I have into his genetics (only for fun... we'd love him no matter what), you'd discover that he, in fact, can be albino, without having red eyes... but it's very rare, putting him in an infinitesmal genetic bunch. His 'blue' eyes in the right light (from the side) are colorless, and it's the light diffusing off his pupils that creates 'blue'. In any case, who cares, he's a lot of fun and the other cats like him (my Russian blue is bezonkers over him!).

There are albinos (very few) that don't have red eyes... I checked (it's long and technical, but possible). And thank you all for your interest - what a nice bunch of people here!
