Seriously, it is a dog! Who cares if he is the ugliest or not? I can not imagine putting one of mine into something like that!

He is a dog and deserves to be loved and taken care of, not made fun of~

Please explain to me why this is funny?!?! IMO it is disgusting that people would put their pet up for a contest like this, and then to have people all around the world laugh at it or compare it to something from "Tales from the Crypt" really disturbs me.

I am sorry but almost all of the comments made by posters before me, are IMO, sad.

Bless it's heart I hope that poor dog isn't suffering in anyway?!

also, What if one of your family members added you into those "ugly people contest" and you saw your self wouldnt you be sad that the world was laughing at your misfortune of being ugly?
Poor thing! I think it's just an unfortuneate angle, we all have one of those of ourselves or out pets. Too bad the owner had to enter the picture, it is kind of scary. The caption said the dog is a Chinese Crested, here's a link to a website with a picture, you can see they're cute dogs! Click here

Ditto, I think making fun of him is terrible. Apparently he is suffering from a lot of age-related ailments, according to that page, so that probably explains a lot of his 'ugliness'. Poor guy.

Personally, I've never seen an animal I didn't think was beautiful. Seriously - when people say that about babies, I roll my eyes and think, yeah right, there are some VERY ugly babies, so maybe people are thinking that about me, but still, that's how I feel.

I saw this dog on one of the morning talk shows the other day...he was sitting on his owner's lap. This poor dog kept growling at the camera man the whole time he was on TV, so perhaps he is in a lot of discomfort due to age related problems.

The owner said she adopted this dog from a shelter and she really loves him. According to what the owner said on TV, the dog helped her get through an ordeal with cancer, and she has a special relationship with him. In the owner's eyes, this is a wonderful and beautiful dog, so who knows why she entered him in an ugly dog contest...

Totally agree. Would we make fun of an "ugly baby" contest? Jeez I hope not. A lot of people might think my Maddie is ugly with only one eye, and if they do they can stuff it.

At the risk of being unpopular, I do think it's funny.

It is sad that the dog suffers from age-related illnesses. But as far as the ugly dog contest goes, I see the humor in that.

I have an old dog (who doesn't live with me anymore, but that's a long story) whose nicknames include "ugly", "stinky", "dummy" (along with the less offensive "scruffy", "old man", "dog" and many more).
After years of calling him that, I have yet to see him offended by any of this. Human beings might be offended by words but dogs aren't.
Plus no mather how ugly, stinky and dumb my dog is, I still love him!

I guess I think its kinda cool to have an ugly contest. I have had some pretty wretched looking old animals, and of course as the woman said, I love them dearly. It is sad that the animal is ill, but nice that the woman has a sense of humor about his looks. How many people would have put the dog down for its looks, rather than showing it off?

And every person who has posted here has probably loved an old ugly pet at some point, maybe you even have an ugly pet now, but you just don't realize it?

Maddie is actually quite beautiful. I never realized she was missing an eye until it was mentioned in a post recently. Somehow when I saw your siggy I was just focused on her stripes and colors. But just like many 3 legged animals are still quite beautiful, so is Maddie.

Thanks Beckiboo! I love her stripes and spots too. I think the nurse in me was drawn to her.

I didn't even notice she had one eye until you mentioned it just now! I've seen her in your siggy before and always noticed her pretty colouring and markings, but never the eye, seriously! I think she's gorgeous - and anyone who doesn't is nuts!

aw, poor little thing!

That poor dog breaks my heart. He's become old and miserable, and they're making fun of him. What a sad and horrible way for a dignified creature to have to spend his declining years. He should be treated like a king for loving his people enough to live a long life, and how do they repay him? By treating him like a creature in a circus side show. My heart goes out to that poor boy. I don't wish death on any creature, but I do know that once he reaches The Rainbow Bridge, he will be a beautiful boy once again, and he will be free of the stigma that surrounds him today.

For real.. the dog I am sure has no idea the world is laughing at him.
Im sure he is loved... he -IS- 14 years old. And behind the ugliness he seems quite happy.
Though I do agree with you on why the owner felt she had to display to the world (over and over again) that she has an ugly dog is something to be proud of.
But think about it ... dont we just laugh when someone is stupid and does something stupid (like the post on here about the lady calling the police b/c Burger king would not make a burger they do not even have). That was stupid and I laughed. Im sure the world is laughing at that one. We laugh at stupid, funny things all the time. Now I would not laugh at an ugly person, for obvious reasons. They would KNOW I was laughing at them. And I know they cant help it.
He is an animal and Im sure he has been taken care of because of his age.

Sending this little pup big hugs... and sorry I made fun of you.

Am I the only one that finds it unfortunate that this dog has had little to no dental care, and that he appears to have skin cancer?
Poor little hairless cresteds need clothing, moisturizer and sunblock.

Barbara because your Maddie only has one eye it's that that makes her "MORE" beautiful!!

My Snoopy who lived to be 20, wasn't the good looking boy he was in his youth. I had to have all of his teeth removed by the vet a couple of years ago. I knew that he wasn't the beautiful cat that he was when he was young, but to me he was still beautiful. I just can't understand how these people could do that to their elderly dog. I don't care if he doesn't know exactly what is going on, it's still disrectful to him and to his spirit.

Their bodies become old and decrepit, as do ours, but their personalities shine through. One of my m-i-l's friends has an albino Corgi, now 15. He's half-blind, is missing most of his teeth, and suffering from severe arthritis. I still think he's one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever encountered, because he's so sweet-natured and dedicated to his human "parents".
