I know there are quite a few readers on these boards, and that quite a few of those are Fantasy and Science Fiction fans. Something someone said in another thread jogged a memory I have of mentioning to my husband about 6 months before we learned the truth of it, that I thought "we" (meaning the movie industry) cold now do a live-action Lord of the Rings. And we all know how that turned out
.

I think we're to the point that ANYthing could be made into a movie. Supposedly some recent poll said that many people think that the movies coming out are worse than they used to be, and with things like "Starsky & Hutch" and "The Dukes of Hazzard" hitting the big screen, I tend to agree with them!

But there are hundreds, thousands of books that would make good movies. (Trivia: eight of the 10 top-grossing movies of all time are fantasy/SF.)

What books would you like to see made into a movie, especially that couldn't even really be considered until fairly recently?

Actually I've got so many I can't even begin, but probably the one that would be a top movie (although not necessarily my favorite) would be Niven and Pournelle's Ringworld, Zelazney's Amber series, McCaffery's Dragonrider series.

I might be a little biased in this, but I'd like to see a movie of "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis. I'm biased because the author and I have a mutual friend who's a scriptwriter, and she's even done a draft of a script for it. Anyway, it's a great book that packs a real dramatic punch and wouldn't rely on apocalyptic special effects in place of drama or character.

"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. Very cool book...the rest of the series is good, too.

Can't wait to see the Narnia movie!! Looks cool. I might have to re-read the books.

I would love to see the Charlie Bone series hitting the big screen sometime in the near future. They are quite similar to Harry Potter in many ways.

Well, I don't think it would go over well, but I would love to see Poppy Z. Bright's vampire world brought to the big screen. But there is way too much homophobia in the world for those to be anything other than underground indie flicks.

More of Anne Rice's work. I would love to see a movie based solely on Julien Mayfaire, since he was definitely the most interesting character from The Witching Hour, et al.

You're welcome, Rigel
. I first heard rumors of a Ghost Rider movie, I dunno, 3-4 months ago? I'm not too sure about the lead, though. Nicholas Cage
??? Ah well, he's a good actor and I understand he's a huge Ghost Rider fan and is actually pretty much the driving force behind the movie. I don't think I ever actually picked up the comic, although I believe I did run across the character in a couple of anthologies. Hmmmm ... can Silver Surfer be far behind
?

I would like to see ANY of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books hit the screen, but he's already said he doesn't want them to be movies so that's a forlorn hope
.
