Got home from work today to find Hershey Kiss laying dead. She was fine this morning. I just don't know what happened. After I picked her up to look at her, and layed her back down, her Momma started cleaning her, as if to help me wake her up. But she was already cold, poor little thing.

There are some signs of diarrhea in their bed, maybe they have had it and Momma (Sugartoes) has been cleaning it up? Could distemper be in the carpet of that room from when it was a kitten room a year ago? What is happening to my babies? She was only 6 weeks old!

This is her fighting with her sister Smartie last week. You can see the lighter spots in her brown tabby fur. One ear looked like a tortie ear.

Same day, her brother Twinkie on top of her!

At three weeks, with brother Twinkie.

She will go for a necropsy tomorrow, and the two kittens I have left will see the vet. I feel numb.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about this, I know you were afraid of fostering again for this reason.
I hope the vet figures it out.

I'm lighting a candle for you and Regina/Dozen2lovs crew right now...

Just remember she had a good life, albeit too short.

Also Becky at this age necropsy's are really a waste of money. Sometimes you are left with more questions than answers-

The lady that runs the agency I foster for suggested it. They work with a couple of vets who gives them great discounts.

But I'm glad to have this advice so I don't spend too much time second guessing whether I should have sent Zero's body in. Hopefully if it is anything contagious they can figure it out and treat the rest of them.

Godspeed, sweet little HersheyKiss...she goes with a name & knowing the love of a good home. I'm praying for the others that you have left, and for you! I know it's painful to lose them, but at least they get to know the comfort of a home - I shudder to think how it might have been, had you not taken them in. Heaven is one star brighter tonite!

So sorry to hear of your loss, and hoping that it was an isolated incident and wont affect the others.

Thanks so much, to each of you. The others are fine this morning, and off they go to the vet today. I will be at work, dh takes them to the foster agency lady, and she will bring them to the vet for us. As soon as she lets me know anything, I will post.

Beckiboo, my crew sends my thoughts and prayers your way. We are dealing with distemper at the moment and hope that isn't your problem. Goodbye sweet Hershey.

Just got the call, vet says no distemper (FPV) in the remaining kittens. He checked them and their stool samples, they are fine. He is calling it fading kitten syndrome (3 of a litter of 5!). They got their first shots, and he did full bloodwork, they are healthy. He will do a necropsy on little Kiss's body later today and send out tissue samples just to be sure.

Thank you for all the prayers, kind words and thoughts, and the support. I am so happy to be getting the "kids" back this evening, and not to have to worry about them going through a recovery from an awful disease.
