I bought my first bag of WBCL today. I have been using PetCo Gold for years...it works fine but has quite a bit of dust. It will be a while before I begin to add the new litter because I just changed out their whole tray & cleaned it this morning so the pan is full.

I would love to know about others experiences when changing brands & types of litter. Any tricks that you know about that I might use?

I use it and it is so much easier than the clay. If I didn't have so many kitties I would be flushing it instead of taking it to the trash. We ran out once and had to use clay again and I noticed that the clay smelled like dirt and made it hard to breath around it. I give a sample bag to every new kitten owner as well as the food samples.

Before I switched Charlotte to WBCL, I used regular clay (non-clumping). I believe the general rule of thumb is to switch very gradually over a period of time, especially if the texture or scent is different than what they're used to. Here's what I did. First, always put the "new" litter (WBCL) on the bottom. When the cat digs to cover up their waster, they will "discover" it on their own. I filled the bottom 1/4 of the litter box with WBCL and the remainder with 3/4 with the original litter. As I saw my cat had been accepting of this ratio, I increased the amount of new litter to that of the original litter (i.e. 50% WBCL/50% original litter) with every complete litter change.

If you have more than one litter box, you could place 100% WBCL in that and see if your cat starts using it. I think that was one of the suggestions on the WBCL bag. Good luck.

Thanks for the useful feedback. I use one litter box so I will wait until I am ready to change it out then do what you suggested. Your ideas are a huge help.

I think that WBCL is unscented...good question though.
How are you doing tonight? I hope that you & your loved ones are safe.

we're all ok, thank you for asking
few people stranded at their offices but they managed to hitch hike home in the end.

Was wondering if wbcl would mask the smell or not? would litter deoderant work with it?

I am so glad that you are OK.

You might want to start a thread about masking litter odors. I use unscented litters. Scents make me sneeze.

You are supposed to mix it, but I was able to switch simply by giving them a litterbox filled with WBCL. But then my cats aren't picky about their litter.

WBCL smells like corn so I suppose it's scented. I have never smelled urine since I started using WBCL. Here is an excerpt from the company's website: Its unique microporous structure provides a large surface area to effectively trap and absorb ammonia and urine odors. Odors are quickly and naturally eliminated with no need for added chemicals or perfumes to mask odor.

Its good stuff. I have the sample bag from DragonLady
funny thing is we also have a box with our yesterdays news in it, and lily and lace have been going in there more Silly kittens. I think its cause the sides are bigger and offer more privacy..but Loki has been useing the one with the WBCL in it heh.

Yeah, me too - I've changed litters at least half a dozen times, and I've never done it gradually, always just a straight switch, and my cats have never had a problem with this or refused to go in the litterbox or anything.

I'm not a huge fan of World's Best - it's okay, definitely better than some types, but I find the clumps stick to the box, which I don't like.

I've read on the board of folks who spray the pan with Pam or its equivalent after cleaning which helps to prevent litter from sticking.

We've got the boys using Feline Pine, but the DH doesn't particularly like the odor when it's used. No ammonia odor at all, but it does have the scent of wet sawdust which he doesn't like. The kids appear not to care

Wow. I've never had a problem with WBCL sticking to the box.

No, the clamps in WBCL aren't sticking to the box. I wonder if the poster confused it with Sweat Scoop litter. Now, those clamps definetly stick to the box. I stopped using Sweat Scoop for that reason.

I live in a one bedroom apartment. Now I am concerned about the odor of corn from the WBCL. I don't want my place to smell like corn.

I also live in a small apartment, and I honestly don't think I smell an over powering scent of corn. Maybe I just have gotten used to it though. I definitely prefer corn over the urine I used to smell when I used non-clumping clay...assuming I had to choose between the two odors.
