Hi everyone, we just adopted a 10 week old kitten and I'm trying to figure out what to feed her. She is a very good eater and hasn't been picky at all.

I'm currently feeding her Pro Plan Kitten Dry, which is what the humane society was feeding her, they gave us a free bag. What is everyone's opinion of Pro Plan Dry?

I want to buy some wet food, and I shop at the local Petsmart. What would you recommend for the new kitty?

I was thinking one of these:

Nutro Canned
Iams Canned
Pro Plan Canned

Any ideas?

When we got Kenny, at the petstore they were feeding him Wellness Super5 Kitten Formula. Unfortunately the food upset his stomach and gave him diarrhea, so we bought him a new cat food at the store, right now we have him on Happy Tails Kitten Formula (for kittens in their first year). We mix that with friskies wet food (chicken) and he REALLY likes it
. I hope I helped~

Hi mzinzi,

Our cats love Nutro and it's a good quality food, one of the best I believe. The crucial thing in cat food, especially moist cat food, is the list of ingredients. The ingredients are listed by quantity, so look for natural ingredients like turkey, chicken, fish as the first item listed. Sometimes "sufficient water for processing" will be the first item, that's OK. If you see "by-products" of any kind, they should be far down the list.

1: Be sure to do any change gradually, by mixing some of the new food with the current, then slowly decreasing the old food, until the kitten is only eating the new.

2: Be sure to get a formulated for kittens food *or* a formulated for all lifestages food - versus one for adults.

3: PetSmart and PetCo both carry Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care - and they do have a kitten food in this line, which is what I'd suggest you consider. Nutro also has pouched kitten food.

I do not recommend Iams, nor the Proplan kitten (the one flavor I looked at had by-products, wheat and soy.)

Thank you for your response!!!

I'm going to run to Petsmart and pick up some Nutro Kitten, it seems to be highly recommended here!!!

Welcome
Just remember to switch gradually, if kitten starts to have gas/soft stools, pull back on the amt. of the nutro and make it a slower switch over.

I actally recieved my first bag of Nutro kitten food as a present to my kitten (Spirit) for christmas. Spirit was hooked, I had been feeding Science diet kitten because it was free through my work (she was eating the samples) and after the Nutro she wouldn't touch it any more.
