Kittens eatting habits

I have kittens that where born May 23, 2005. I recently went on vacation and my mother watched them. I was worried about them starving while I was gone because according to the baby kitten calendar they should be weaned. I got food and tried everything for i left. i called a vet and she said the mother will wean when its time not to force it. Again I explained I was going out of town. So I went and got wet food for my mother to put out every day. I came home last night and they are eating hard food and will not have nothing to do with soft. Is this ok? Any words of wisdom?

Some kittens just prefer the dry. I have one that won't touch wet food not at all. The only way I can get him to eat "wet" food is to soak some dry food in KMR for a few minutes and feed it to him. As long as they are also drinking water, dry food is fine for kittens.
