I was thinking about Callie, and how miserable she was living with those two other cats for a year and a bit (with the original owners).

Do you think it could be because they never got introduced properly? what are the chances of her living with other cats again in the future, and having a different attitude towards it?

Or is it just safe to say she doesn't like other cats?

It might be both. Some cats just prefer to be alone. I know Limerick does. So when I finally move home, it's going to be a strugle. I hope Limerick can accept Able and learn to live with him

Honestly, the only way you'll know is to give it a shot again. It could be either or both, really. How old is she? Is she spayed? What was the prior situation?

If you wanted another cat as a companion for her, you could consider fostering one, that way, if she really hates it, then the shelter will be able to take her back, which would be better than trying to find a cat a home while you have a cat that hates it. You do have to give them a few months to get used to each other though.

She's 5 years old. She lived with two other outdoor cats (she's indoor), and I have a feeling they must have fought a lot, that's why the original owners wanted to give her away. I don't know if they ganged up on her or what. knowing her and her personality i would be surprised if she didn't kick their as*es! yes she is spayed.

There are definitely cats that don't get along with other cats - I've got one, and there are currently two cats in "solitary confinement" at the local shelter who have to go to homes without other cats.
Jamie has been bad. We had an older cat when we got Jamie at 10 weeks, and Jamie never got along with Straycat, who was so good with other cats that he actually brought his buddies home with him (he was a former feral and had free access to the outdoors). After Straycat died, we tried to get Jamie to accept a kitten, with disastrous results, as he almost killed the poor thing. Our last attempt was with a neighborhood cat that insists that she lives here. After months of effort, we finally gave up. She spends nights at a neighbor's two doors down, has a cat flap to our laundry room, where she eats, but has to be kept away from Jamie.

Sounds like she just wants your exclusive attention then. Hey, it's a compliment. Like jcat mentioned...some cats just like to be the ONLY one in the house, and won't take anything else as a living situation. Some just don't like to share.

With that having been said, I would just obstain from trying. She's at an age now where I don't think you'll be able to get around it. I think through her last experience, she might have decided that other cats just aren't worth her time & effort...regardless of what they're like. Doesn't make her a bad kitty, I don't think, just one that prefers to have solitude as opposed to another kitty trying to get her to spend time with them. Kinda like how some people just don't like company...and don't like socializing much.

Hope that helps!
