Ugh,
got my first episode of a hair ball with Callie last night at about 4:30 AM. Of course, where does she do the most coughing up? On my nice duvet. Then she goes over to the sleeping bag on the couch and does it there too. Nice! Thanks Callie!

Zoom Groom here I come!

Believe it or not, we haven't had any "hair-ball episodes" since getting the Zoom Groom. The combination of daily combing, bi-weekly Zoom-Groom sessions, and cat grass seems to work!
I don't know if it's any consolation, but Callie at least didn't deposit the hair balls where you could step on them in your bare feet.

I haven't had any hair balls since I feed her the hairball control dry food. I mix a bit of it with her regular dry food, and to my surprise no hair balls. But Maya would have them when we got her, and she wouldn't caugh them up on the hardwood floor or tiles either, she would get into bed with me and I would awake to this weird sound near my head. It's just magical to wake up to that.
I don't know if that food is any good or not, I tried grooming her, but she clawed me really bad
I looked like I was attacked.

yeah, its so nice!

I just went out and bought her the Zoom Groom and some of that Petromalt. She likes the Petromalt, doesn't really like the Zoom Groom. I combed her a few times with it and she was pretty suspicious of it. I left it upside down (comb part up) so she could rub against it herself and sniff it and make it hers. then i will try again.

With my old cat I had her for one year and she only coughed up a hairball once, and nicely on the old magazine i held under her mouth.

oh and just for an added bonus, i took the duvet and sleeping bag to the dry cleaners, and it will cost me $50 to clean both. great.

If it's that expensive, I'd risk throwing both in the washer - if they're wrecked in the washing machine, which I doubt, replacing both of them shouldn't cost much more. My sister-in-law regularly pays a small fortune to have the family's duvets professionally cleaned; when she asked me what I did, I had to admit that I just throw everything in the washer, hang the stuff out to dry for several hours, and then run it through the drier with a tennis ball to "fluff everything up". Our down comforters are 25 years old, and the summer duvets (polyester filling) are roughly 15 years old. We've had some pillows disintegrate, but that was it.

My mother does that with her duvets as well, washes them hangs them to dry and does the tennis ball too in the dryer. And none have been destroyed so far, so it's worth to give it a try. I wash my pillows and never had any problems...But no more hairballs since that food...I am never switching

Just goes to show...hairballs aren't a necessary evil when having cats. Hairballs CAN be prevented!!

Well, i was all excited cause I bought some Petromalt, and she happily licked it off my finger right away. Then last night I tried to give her a little more and she totally refused it and walked away turning her back on me.
so this morning I thought i would be sneaky and sort of mixed it in with her wet food. I had to laugh because she ate almost all the food but left the Petromalt glob! There is no fooling her!!

Hairball remedies should be given to the cat on an empty stomach, two or three hours BEFORE the next meal. The main reason for this is because they coat the lining of the digestive tract, interferring with nutrient absorption. Also, they are just simply much less effective when given with food.
