Last Thursday I noticed that Persil had a lump under her left front leg, with a bit of crust on it. As I was taking Ellie in for her blood test I took Persil as well, and Vet Haris thought it was just somewhere she had scratched, and not to worry. Over hte last few days I have been checking on it and it got no worse, but no better either, I had decided to take her back this morning, when I realised that it had got much smaller, so I thought, good, it is healing. Persil got very wriggly and I was alone so it was hard to see it properly. And then this evening when I looked I saw it has opened right up and I think has burst. So it is off to the vet in the morning, and meanwhile I have dressed it with cotton gauze and bettadine. But it was never hot and never seemed to bother her, even when I felt it. She had a nasty abscess under her armpit before, and we thought it was a reaction to a shot. Anyone have any ideas to share?

I wish I did, Jenny. Betadine seems to be the right avenue, and she's probably much more comfortable now that it has burst.

As Haris wasn't there this morning we saw vet Amir, the one who first saw Persil when I took her in with the ruptured diaphragm in January. So he knows us and was pleased to see her again. He cleaned the abscess out, put more disinfectant on it and gave her an antibiotic shot. She goes again on Sat morning. My friend Alisa came with me, as she will be the one looking after them when I leave for the UK on Sat afternoon, so I was glad we went. The only thing that surprised me a bit was that Amir said don't bandage it, leave it open and don't worry if she licks it. Well, we will see if she makes it worse. Meanwhile I will keep her in to avoid any infection from outside. Why do these things always happen when one is going away?
