I just realised that we should hear the result very soon.... at 12.46hrs UK time (cos it's nearly bed time in Singapore!)

There's a party in Trafalgar Sq! I might go and have a look at lunchtime

Susan....my hometown (Savannah) hosted some events for the '96 Olympics....traffic was HORRIBLE! Yes, everything leading up to it was SO exciting....but you'll also be glad when it's over!!

I don't know whether to be pleased or not - London is my home town, but I am going to be living 2 hours from Paris! It may be difficult for Brits in France for the next few months till it all settles down.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!

I just got back from Trafalgar Sq! I am so hyped up atm it was great! At about 12.30 I said to the girl in the office lets go to Trafalgar Sq - it's only up Tottenham Crt Rd then Charing Cross. We walked so fast and got there in 10 mins! As we were going into the crowds all these cars and taxi's started hooting their horns at us and one taxi driver held out a sign saying we had got the bid! We were cheering and clapping in the streets. As soon as we got into the square, green, red, blue, black confetti was flying everywhere it was so cool!

We managed to get near the front on the balcony bit by the national gallery and saw all the news crew. We saw Sally Gunnell as well and a few other olympic ppl (who I don't know...). We saw Heather Small sing the anthem on stage, then the live link with Tony Blair. Lastly we saw Mel C singing then the round up of it all. For me though, the most amazing bit was suddenly seeing the RED ARROWS do the fly past with the coloured smoke coming off their tail. I didn't expect to see them and didn't know they were they were going to be there so was in shock! haha

Well done London and well done to all the other countries who bid!!!

Yay! We did it!

Gilly, it sounds so amazing down there! I can just imagine it - like Manchester getting the Commonwealth and Liverpool getting Capital of Culture! Sorry, Susan!

You will certainly have to get some pictures!

The girl I was with took some pics with her mobile phone. I had my camera with me yesterday but didn't bring it in today cos I hadn't planned on going to trafalgar sq... lol

We got some pics of the crowds and us with Nelson's Column in the background. I think we got a few of Sally Gunnell as well...
That's great, Gilly! Make sure you get them up for us to see!

It's Steve Redgrave the rower.
Jeez, I should be on "Question of Sport" or something

Congrats, London. I was young, but I remember when we had the Olympics in Los Angeles. I didn't go see them, but we had people from all over the world here, during that time. The traffic didn't really cause me a problem, probably because I live in the Hollywood area, and I had no problems getting everywhere I wanted to go.
Just saw the final results on the afternoon news.... CONGRATS to all of my UK peeps on getting the Olympics!!
I was hoping New York myself. I would have been close enough to possibly go. I always worry about holding such events in such historical cities like London. As a historican I tend to get worried. But I know London won't dream of damaging any of thier historical sites just for the games.

Good luck to London, I'm sure everything will go off with out a hitch.

I wonder if Chirac will even be speaking to Blair at the G8 summit?

Oh yeah!

Hard to tell when you just see the back of his head! That pic was in my Evening Standard newspaper and they did say it was Steve Redgrave. If they hadn't (and you hadn't) I might never have known!
