So we live in the mountains on 7 acres and our nearest neighbor is roughly 1/2 mile away. We have 1 cat....Newt....who has taken to the mountains with great zest. He loves to hunt, kill & eat....yuck. Lately there seems to be a couple of cats from other homes that venture to our property and make a very strange deep yowl at night. They (not sure if it is one or two) have been coming consistantly and we are concerned that they will attract the bobcats and/or coyotes. They came and got into a fight with Newt the other day. Does anybody know anything about this behavior? Why would they come around to Newt's turf when they have so far to travel?

Maybe they're feral cats and your property is part of their territory. Then they would look upon Newt as an intruder.

How old is Newt, has he been neutered? Have the neighbour's cats been neutered? Are they male?

I would keep Newt inside at night at least. It would be for his own protection. You never know what ferals can carry. I would hate you you to lose your furkid to these cats or other animals!!! good luck!!!

A cat can travel in a one square mile area. So this would encompass your property. I would keep him inside at night also as to avoid fighting or other probs.

Are you sure the other cats are neutered? This sounds more like a tom cat behavior.
