Another cat has left and gone away;
it's good the Rainbow Bridge has lots of room:
the meadow's a fine place to romp and play;
so many friends to chase away the gloom.

But he'll look down on you and see your tears;
he'll know your heart is broken, shattered, sore;
he'll wish that he could calm all of your fears,
curl up and purr in your lap just once more.

And as time passes, he will soon learn how
to send a message from his shooting star;
he'll send a sign or say a soft meow;
you'll know he's safe as he says "au revoir."

Perhaps someday because he's known your love,
he'll send another cat from up above.

Now I must build a boat for you, my boy:
it's made with planks of purring and soft fur;
it's crafted with a kitten's reckless joy;
it's honed with a meow and quiet grrrr.

I've worked so hard and sealed the cracks with tears;
I've tried to find a different plan to use;
I've used up all my anger and my fears;
I wish there were another way to choose.

The boat I built will take you far away;
you'll cross the Rainbow Bridge and wait for me.
I really wish that I could make you stay;
you can't -- so I will help you cross that sea.

I hold my courage tightly in both hands
And help you sail away to Rainbow lands.
