Before when i was coming home from work, i walked round the back of my house, to find a poor little kitten in a box dumped
, he cant be more than 4 weeks old, and he is absloutly terrified.

I have him in my room now, but he keeps hissing when i come near him.
But one thing, he is riddled with fleas and im a bit worried about that, im taking him the vets tomorrow first thing, to get him checked out etc.
It doesnt look like he has had any human contact at all.... but i could be just mistaken there, but he or she is staying here with me i think i've just got to give him alot of love so that he gets used to me

If he is only 4 weeks (if he is hissing, have tyou checked his gender?), he is likely hungry. Kittens that age are just being weaned. What are you feeding him? KMR? Was their any sign of a mama cat nearby? You may need to feed him KMR every 2 hrs and then do the whole hand rearing thing - I have been there - it is tiring but very rewarding. Still, bottle babies have unique needs so best be prepared. Read kittenrescue.org and www.kitten-rescue.com and there is much info in both places.

He will need much love but many many things!! Good luck!!

You should hold him close to you to make sure he is warm - a tiny baby even hissing cannot hurt you. If he has sharper claws, her is older than you think. Gewt him to a vet for a checkup to rule out diseases and he will need to be dewormed and defleaed and have his vaccinations when he is old enough and has a better immune system.

Does he/she have teeth that you can plainly see? If so, they he/she doesn't need the KMR. You can just open a can of moist cat food (try the pate-style and if it isn't soupy enough, you can add a little warm water to make it more of a runny paste) and my guess is that he/she will eat it right up.

Uhh sorry but I beg to differ- a feral kitten, scared, hungry and sick can indeed hurt you, and hurt you pretty good. I would get him warmed up slowly, give him food and leave him be until a vet can examine him. If you feel you have to handle him, do not make eye contact with him and use a thick towel to cuddle him. Be sure that you wrap up his head loosely in the towel, allowing him to breathe, but cutting off the view of what is going on with him. When you transport, drape the carrier with a dark cloth, make sure he isn't sitting in direct sun. Often, if the weather isn't to hot, I will leave feral kittens in the carrier in the car until they call my name to be seen. It lessens the stress level on them.

Good luck and thank you for saving him. Please let us know what they find out-

Aww, bless you Carrie for rescuing that poor little baby! I don't have any advice to offer but I'm sending vibes that the little furbaby will get healthy and grow to love you in a short amount of time.

oh thankyou guys for careing so much

Have taken him to the vets today and all is fine
, ok i was a little out on his age, he is 8 weeks, just a very small 8 week old, he has been wormed, flee'd etc, and the vets said he will be just fine.

And im sorry cyberkitten, but trust me, a kitten hissing and scratching can hurt, i have the marks to prove it.

When i got him home, i calmed him down and he seemed to be ok, had some cat milk, but hasnt eaten yet, but he has ran straight under the draws again and is hissing and spitting at me.... i know he is just frightened, it's just upsetting seeing the little fella like that.

And yes, i am going to keep him for sure, he'll have all the love he needs here

I'm sure he will Carrie!. MA will advise you on it more i bet, but he's a baby which i'd imagine is a bonus for him to grow out of it?!.

Are you talking softly to him and giving him scritches?

Carrie, if I may, just leave him be for now. Don't pick him up, because cat bites even baby feral kitten bites are quite painful, as you have found out. he is scared and defensive and he needs to trust you. The only way he will trust you, is if you just let him be and let him decompress. See to his needs, food, water, litter pans, but don't scoop him up and hold him right now, there will be time for that later. Sit on the floor, be very quiet, or read out loud softly to him. Take a tee shirt and put it on and get is major sweaty with your scent, then feed him on top of it. Keep the lights dim in the room (I use nightlights) give him a safe place to hide and don't go looking for him. Make sure you put his food down at regular intervals, always in the same place, same bowl- same with the water. Scoop his litter pans (he should have two) out at scheduled times and don't deviate. He should be able to anticipate your every move after he gets into the rhythmn. Don't buy into the myth that you need to force him to be sociable- you can socialize any kitten at any age if you work with them and not agains't them. Don't expect him to be grateful to you for saving him, right now you are his jailer. Just work slow and gentle with him leave him alone for a few days and see how he does.
